I've never felt that George Robert's singing was in the same universe as that of his brother, Harry Lillis "Bing," ten years his senior. Still, Bob, having worked with the orchestras of Anson Weeks and the Dorsey Brothers (incurring the wrath of Tommy for his vocal shortcomings) was chosen as "leader" of a cooperative outfit largely comprising former Ben Pollack orch sidemen, and made an amiable frontman for the powerhouse band. The lads had wanted Jack Teagarden, himself once a Pollack star, but the trombonist had recently signed a five-year contract with Paul Whiteman. This side happens to be one of my favourites to feature Bob, simply because I like the tune and I think our vocalist sounds earnest. Listen for his _clear_ (Since you've been gone, it's all very clear") 1:56. A little hiccup? I don't think that was intentional. Eddie Miller's tenor in the first chorus is lovely.
