I really like the monster here. It's ultimately fairly harmless outside a non-game-ending jumpscare, but it's actually pretty strategic instead of just stalking you just because you're closing in on its master. After all, it's there to prevent anything from bringing about its master's return, not prevent anyone from knowing about him. Once it steals the box containing the instructions to return your wife without Nyarlathotep, it doesn't show up again.

The Gods of Lovecraft fascinate me, as they do countless others. They're not simply abstract entities of cosmic power, but metaphors for universal forces and their destructive offspring, like how the laws of physics not just allows but demands black holes, vacuums, radiation, and countless other things that both - paradoxically - are hostile to and necessary for life to exist. The psychological destruction from even perceiving them is a metaphor for the real and gradual degradation of our human egos that comes with learning about these forces and how they are both infinitely more powerful and could easily annihilate us, without warning or even knowing or caring we existed at all. The prime lesson is discovery can be dangerous, and some things are best not to be known at all.

Unless I’m mistaken, the -hotep is an Egyptian suffix (think that’s the word) in Nyarlathotep, probably got it during his time as the Black Pharaoh and is arguably the only pronounceable part of his name do to its human origin. Again, please correct me if I’m wrong.
