23:32 - Yeah, they're probably better off having a sub-panel branching from their main service, and have the sub-panel feed the refrigeration. It may not be necessary, but I'm a big believer in slightly-overdoing things; and it will open up a few spots on their main panel(s) for the future.

We use 24h time in Trucking, quick convert from 12 to 24 is just add two to the time and throw a 1 in front, so 4 becomes 16, if you roll over 0 in your head it's gonna be 20something. I used to suck at converting it when I counted it the long way and even made myself late once. Dispatcher taught me that and it stuck.

Tasty tidbit. To convert normal time to military time, add 12 if it is between 1pm and 11pm. If its midnight, it's all zeros. To convert military time to normal time, subtract 12 if there is no leading 0 (0100, 0700, etc). If there is a leading 0, remove the 0. Source: I work at a tv station. All we use is military time

Great stuff. One thing though I don’t agree that cutting the line set and sliding insulation around the suction trap would be best. You’re better off mitering a p trap and using that. The fact that the trap had the insulation just slid around the trap is probably why it failed in the first place.

Pull the blade off set it on flat ground and step on the middle of the hub to get the pitch down. I know it sounds kinda hackish but I have had to do this a few times. And it works pretty good no wobble in the blade and it's doesn't take much to get the amps down.

I just use the 24hr clock by default. It's not exclusive to the military do I don't refer to regular 24 hr clock as military time. My girlfriend from Europe uses it but also uses our clock just as easily as I do. I can use Celsius a little easier than her for Fahrenheit. Shit all our units are mixed 😅 just like an American car manufacturer

If they don't have room in the Main Electrical Panel for all the new A/C units, what they can do is strip out the current Circuit feeding the Rack being replaced and use that Circuit slot to run a large Circuit up to the roof and feed a Sub Panel from it, then run all the new A/C Circuits to the Sub Panel...

If it takes more work, that means you need more current. Have you never stuck something behind a fan inlet? You'll hear the motor noise change as it tries to pull more air. Same for fan blade shape and pitch etc. That all changes the pressures needed to be overcome which will take more current.

I've found using an actual shaft water slinger is better than those cheap ones that come on the new motors. The ones I use are plastic and they are around 3-4 inch in diameter. You could have raised the blade up on that shaft of the new motor to reduce the amps being drawn until you got the proper sized blade. Remember the blade is what determines HP and volume of air. Good job on getting them going!

I have several locations RR that have those racks. One is completely disconnected, it only had compressor skids in it for all the production line and server line equipment that has long since been replaced with self contained units. One rack only has the cooler walk in left in it, same story for the rest except the freezer. Had problems with freezer and found it was still in there. Tomorrow replacing the external condenser for the bar units that died and using a unit sitting on roof left from a remodel that deleted what it was attached to. One rack only has walk ins and possibly one little unit on it. Long ago lost the ice machines in it and now they are separate remotes. One store has individual units with the condenser bypassed in them and piped over to a multi coil fan unit. That is a mess to work on. This store still has some units built into the server and main lines. Though walk ins are separate units. I do agree the filters are in a PITA location. Good luck on the complete change out. May I make a suggestion, gut the unit for the most part and keep the rack there and put the condensing units inside it with the main fans moving air through the whole unit and make use of the existing power distribution.

So what ended up being the deal with only one fan cap? Did the working fan have it's own cap on it? I was also admiring the after-market wiring that had been done down around those interlock relays and the contactors. All the original wiring was neatly bundled and tied down, and there was this flying blue wire to the interlock relay, and a couple of flying red or pink wires up to the contactor. It made me wonder what that was all about, and why someone couldn't have run those wires neatly.

Why is the P-trap in the freezer? To my mind any standing water caught in the P-trap would end up freezing and blocking flow and maybe cracking the pipe if it fills the pipe before freezing.

It’s a reverse trap in the suction line of the refrigeration tubing. It helps keep oil from getting stuck in the evaporator when the compressor is off since the compressor is above the evaporator.

4PM, not sure why some people count up the from 12, there are different ways but mine is just take the PM time, add 2 on the last number, if 11, so its 21, just increase the first number by one and of course there is no 24 if you write it down, its 00 but most clocks show 24. Its odd writing it down as it seems long but it literally is not something you need to count around the clock to get the right answer and you are only 2 away from the time you need.

1:45 I wonder why mechanical timers are still a thing. An RTC with a set of CR2032 cells as backup would keep time perfectly for 3 times the life of the unit, not to mention mains frequency synchronization. It's not like they're using the mechanical timers for switching anymore - it's all JUST through relays! A $20 microprocessor-based timer would last 30 years. Throw in a solid state relay and it would outlive you. I've seen

Yes, very different to Australia also. 240 volts probably makes a difference. In Oz this freezer would have a digital thermostat controlling the defrost, comp and fans. I never fit liquid line solenoids as pump down controls because the blowers defrost quicker and better with gas in them. And the LP remains as a safety rather than operating control. I haven't fitted one of those old Penn or any other analogue t/stat for 20 yrs

Hey Chris, I have a question; What is the best way for customers to clean and maintain the evaporator in walk in cooler/freezer. In my case took all the chunks off with soft nylon brush, is soap and water okay to break up the gunk on it. or should we save it for the PM at start of the year. Thanks for the videos, you do a great job explaining the what and why, in your videos. It helps a simple line cook like me take care of the basics and cut down on some of our headaches.
