I was fired 2 years ago, and I was pretty scared because I am the main breadwinner & my husband is retired. Plus, I was 61years old . I looked for a job & found one in 20 days & now make 30% more & they pay my health insurance premiums. God has really blessed me.

What he says about interviewing different when you're desperate vs when you're not is SO true.

I'm sure Dave knows what he's talking about, but this call kinda made me laugh. Woman: "My husband lost his job..." Dave: "GREAT!!"
@clarifyingquestions5 жыл бұрын
because it is great -he is a chemical engineer - great, they are not broke and/or desperate because they listen to Dave - great and they are in a white hot economy - great. Her sobbing is great too - sign that they will get on this pocket the severance and turn it into a signing bonus. Hence Dave's response - great. So many callers call in giggling ( nervous I suppose) and not even including car loans student loans as debt - they are not sobbing and nothing great in their story. These people will call Dave back from a city they like better with a pay increase!

Remember that lady that's been a salesperson for over 20 years? She was so scared but DR wasn't worried and convinced her she could land any job she wants with her experience of communicating and SHE DID. She took a $5k/year pay cut just to prove herself. Now she's on her way to making more than she was before.

Mike Nelson 5k a year isn’t much difference in a salary so how is that relevant

She was crying a little bit because she was a little scared which is totally understandable. But her husband shouldn't have a problem find a job especially if he is open to other opportunities outside of chemical eng.

spot on Dave he will be fine, he has severance and should be able to get another gig quite soon. Also, you own your home and have your finance under control 👏👏👏.

Benny recession or no recession any great opportunity depends on your skillet and how well you interview. The point is that they are in a great position because they are financially stable based on the information given. Even if he was to just deliver pizza for the rest of his life, they still have a paid for house and doesn't seem to have much payments other than her finishing school.

Not too surprising to hear a Chemical Engineer getting laid off. BLS predicts only 2% job growth for Chemical Engineers over 2014-2024.

A hot economy matters
@GaryPierce735 жыл бұрын
No white hot economy in Central Indiana. Perhaps in Nashville/Cool Springs/Brentwood, TN and other areas, but not here. Job options in our area - fast food restaurants, Wal-Mart, Meijer, and one factory. That's it! Not much to pick from for a man trying to provide a nice life for his family. Moving to another city or state with more oppprtunities may be in our future.

With the national debt as it stands, jobs are hiring in all sectors, people are able to buy homes, sell homes and maintain their homes. America is much better economically than it was during 2008, 2009...
