I can't understand why the wife would even consider taking him back especially after the way he's deceived her; arranging house for this woman to live in--too much. Later when he finds out the child isn't his, the writer will make all of this deception go away and the wife will be fine. In reality, the wife under normal circumstances wouldn't be fine because it's the deception that the husband is doing now, not something that happened 9 years ago before they married, but his behavior now.

Even if the ex's son isn't his, it's the way he was willing to sneak behind his wife's back and carry on an affair. It may not have been sexual with the ex, but it was still an affair. He spent more time talking and being with the ex than with the child.
