Don't know if Is this story is based in USA. In the USA, at least in my state, inheritances are not considered a marital asset and belong solely to the inheritor.

I think part of it depends on where you live and what the inheritance is, particularly property. I believe alot of the time, property remains with the inheritor, as long as you don't add the spouse's name to any deeds or titles.

@@fionaward9942 not in most countries. It doesn't matter when you receive the inheritance. If it is kept on a separate account in your name it is always yours.
