It’s the same song, different verse. This feels exactly like where they left off at the end of last season. Poor in-game coaching and clock management. Making crucial mistakes at the worst time. Playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Etc. Matt Rhule is not gonna shake the “used car salesman” label until he starts beating ranked teams.

I'd buy a used car from him. He's taking the jalopy that was Nebraska football program and he's turning it into a respectable program.

It was a good game. Illinois is a good team and both programs are on the rise. Nebraska fans live in the past like past performance predicts future results. Yes Nebraska has a storied past and Illinois maybe not as recent but to say, "Oh, we lost to Illinois. Or we should have rolled Illinois." Is ignoring the present and focused on the past.
@LukeJ-cq8ks2 ай бұрын
I don’t think people are overlooking how good this Illinois team is. But I think Nebraska fans can still acknowledge that the team missed several opportunities to win the game and is not as far along as thought earlier this week. The Huskers panicked and lost discipline when confronted with a close game, and that possibility was absolutely a part of the conversation this week.
@Gee2deDubya2 ай бұрын
@LukeJ-cq8ks I don't want to speak for the OP, or you, but I think they mean that, like your comments, there's been a fair amount of NU self analysis, maybe too much. Yes, Nebraska left more than a few points on the field, but Illinois absolutely did the same, to the tune of at least 2 scores; I argue that it's the difference between your "we could've won the game", to how we look at it, which is, Illinois could've just as well made this a game Nebraska never had a chance to win late. Not a blowout, no, but a more comfortable game. Perspective, that's all.

@@chrisowen3264 What Rhule did for Temple and Baylor is superior to anything BK accomplished. With far less resources at his disposal. When his Temple teams played ND his superior coaching was evident, even though he lost due to the talent difference. Is that funny enough for you Owen? Also many of BK's wins were VACATED, the only ND coach ever to suffer that.

Mike hit the nail on the head - Special teams lost this game. The offense and defense played well enough to win, but you have to put your team in decent field position, and have to make 30-something-yard field goals.

The idea of Bend don’t Break does NOT work in the Big10. The offenses WANT to waste clock and take control of the game. Bending means you lose the field position game. That’s the bread and butter of the Big10. Bend don’t Break is no longer acceptable now that we are in Big10 play
@2528drevas2 ай бұрын
We were sold a bill of goods. We are not playing "Championship football" and we won't this season. Tony White was outcoached, period. All those HC jobs that were expected to come his way? Not happening. Dylan continues to impress and the offense overall played well enough to win. Indiana is going to take a dump on this defense though, and the original predictions of 7.5 wins looks like the ceiling for this team.

Stop with the penalty excuses, both Coordinators for NU got schooled, good luck with that HC gig White 😎 Whatever you do Rhule, make sure you put all the weight of the teams success on your Freshman QB's arm. Do not, and I repeat, do not actually try and establish a running game. Score in 4 plays, and rush that Defense back out there on the field... ...brilliant game plan in the BIG!!! I think Bill Busch lives like 4 miles from you, he is an actual "Special Teams" coach.... ....Foley is not! This team will be LUCKY to win 6 games this season.... NU's coaching staff was totally outcoached by the Illini. NU's D was exposed as slow-footed. NU's offense wore down and was at a standstill to start overtime. They knew the game was over as soon as Gunnar Gottula got called for the false start. Raoila is going to be really good. Illinois is an expert team at holding. The Big10 through the referees protects the senior members of the conference, ala Illinois, from the junior members. There's a pecking order and NU is near the bottom.
