For everyone judging Jodie for keeping Key on lead for part of the time - go watch her video of the trip. There’s several times where she’s walking the perimeter with him and he’s trying to get under the shed, or get under the hedge. Yes, Jamie has put up netting to block holes but I’m betting he would be the first to admit that 1) there could easily be holes he’s overlooked and 2) that doesn’t mean it’s totally secure for dogs like Nook and Key who will test the boundaries far more than Sherpa. Key did get plenty of off leash time, but that time is clearly strictly supervised. Which isn’t reasonable to do 24/7. So when Jodie wasn’t able to put 100% of her attention on Key, she utilised a longline as an added layer of security. Well done Jodie for putting the safety and security of Key first.

Agreed! Even in his own yard, Key is on a long leash. I am guessing that, like my Husky (and most huskies) he can be an escape artist. Huskies are notorious for that.

Agree with this. Huskies are escape artists and incredibly smart. If there’s a challenge or a way out they will figure it out. I’d put my boy on a long line for sure. Sherpa is a very good boy to be able to walk off leash the way he does. Most of us husky owners aren’t so lucky, even with a ton of training. Well done Jodie for putting Key’s safety first ❤

Totally agreed we take our girl down to the beach we’re it’s off leash and she is good but would never trust her in the bush she would be gone so different situations require different strategies with these very smart intelligent woofers

Yeah, Key is used to having a fence round the house. While Sherpa's been trained from young never to be far away from his owner. The caravan didn't have a fence so Sherpa's used to that too & just lays down chilling

I would be just as cautious as Jodie. I’ve had my dog get through a fence line and get hit by a car. I was careless. He fully recovered but needed a lot of vet care. I felt terrible. We are the guardians.

So true ! Key does a wonderful job he's definately very respectful of Sherpa!! I can remember on one of Jodie's memory videos she showed a picture of the first time they met eachother... you all were at a beach I believe and there sherpa stood full-grown next to a tiny puppy Key!! I loved that pic! Maybe this is why key is so respectful to this day because Sherps is his elder and always has been in keys eyes.. 💙🩵🩶🤍

@Brauiz90 I also think that animals can smell the scent of family members so understand our relationships so he knows Jamie is his favorite person's dad. We introduced my sister's new son to our dog and the dog knew he was family and treated him like his own pup with love and unending patience.

That was a joy to watch. It's heart-warming to see Key sleeping in Jamie's room & Sherp guarding Jodie sleeping in the guestroom. Huskies are notorious escape artists, and there's a busy road on the other side of that hedge. Jodie's video shows her walking K'eyush around the perimeter, checking for gaps and holes, and K'ey is enthusiastically participating! He'd be out in a minute as soon as he found/created something. A nice long leash really is the safest and most responsible thing to do when he's outside without being supervised. Looks like they got lots of supervised off-leash playtime, though! :)

I think everyone still can't believe that they've actually arrived at Jamie and Sherpa's new house and home. 😍 After the exploration tour is over, the two friends want to organize a big playdate. One of my dogs was partially handicapped. I put my other dog on a lead to play so my other dog could get just out of range when needed for a short break. It worked really well and she taught him to lay down and play ‘bitey face’ instead of jumping on her and the play evolved nicely. But as Sherpa ages, having a situation like you had with Key on long lead and Sherpa free will be a great way for them to still have fun but let’s Sherpa control the engagement. 👍🏻
