Husqvarna 372xp "X-Torq" to 372 XPW & Original Edition 371 to 372 to 372 X-Torq Evolution

This video is a response to a Facebook thread where is was obvious that still, after so much has been put out in the internet, folks still see 372 and think a 372 is a 372..:) SO doing a typical conversion gives yet another opportunity to clear the air on that front. Here I focus on simply the cylinders that were common place on the OE 372 chassis including the 365 special until on or about 2010 when X-Torq's were introduced here in the US and the OE's were taken from us as "New Saw"options. I don't get into the differences between the 365/372 X-Torq's because the premise is I'm getting RID of them regardless of version, an X-Torq is an X-torq, like a wart to be removed regardless of iteration..:) SO I classify them is this video simply as "X-torq's". And again discuss the different versions of Husqvarna 372xp "Large Mount" case versions since the mid 1990's.

You are right. My new 372 XP is a screamer. Yesterday, was its initial tune on the tach. The first reading was 14, 140 on the tach. It was richened up, considerably. I left it running 12,400-12,900 at WFO with a slight four stroke. It should be safe in any environment. Real pleased with it so far. It was pretty easy to cobble together but still a learning curve.

I had never truly delved into why there was so much debate about the various 371-372 models, but I leave this video feeling that I now have a pretty solid understanding of the differences...thanks for that! I always enjoy the builds! As a side, Spring is showing her shiny face here in coastal, South Central Alaska, almost a month early....ready for it!!

If I am not mistaken the 365 special was the 48mm the later 365 x-tourq is a 50mm only difference is the transfer port cap

365 special was a 48mm closed port original edition or conventional design cylinder. The current 365 is a 50mm X-torq design cylinder, and the difference between the current 365 and current 372 is the transfer cap, filter holder, filter, and filter cover. Oh yeah, tags and stickers. But the current 365 has a completely different cylinder design than the Original edition 38mm 365.

Watch every video you do ,seen a similar older video, a while ago . i have both models but both run good so unless one blows up i might do the mods lol but they wont blow up, I run full ester synthetic motul 800 and ipone race oil at 40:1 both have real high viscosity , and even on all my saws are the same and as you have seen in vids the pistons and crank are nice and oily when i pull saws apart for a little mod or a check over , the fuel does evaporate when shut off but comparing to 50:1 , a big difference

This might be a dumb question but I’ll ask anyway. What would happen if you introduce air/fuel mix into the port that is the air injection port going to the combustion chamber? Would it help cram more into the cylinder or would it suffer from back pressure or just do nothing?

A die grinder and some skills. The "caps" over the transfers have a little "fin" in them. A 372 doesn't have those.

Not sure which video it was in but there was a couple you talk about the 372xp and tuning it to 13k rpm give or take depending on the year. If you look on the Holzfforma site it says max rpm for the G372xp is 11,500 rpm. What rpm do you tune the Holzfforma 372's to? Wouldn't think they would be that far off.

Been setting the g372 to 12,500 and the g372xp to 13,000. No major explosions so guess that's OK..:) BUT the bottom line in this should you have a question is tune to the spark plug color. Nice light brown it where you want it after a period of time working

does the length of the coil wire matter? the little blue one you installed

yes, kind of sucks when it's too short and won't reach the plug. Or too long and there is no place to waste the extra as it pushes on to the cylinder cooling fins. And a 372 x-torq has a taller cylinder therefore the ignition has a longer plug wire, often they come where u have to cut them down to fit.

Hell of a job. Some company that sells stihl and husqvarna was telling me to get a stihl 461 over a 372 because on these new 372 they get hot on top end of cylinder and causes problems and wont last as long as a 461. I would really love to hear your opinion on it. I can get a 372 for 780.00 and 461 is 1100.00. Makes me wonder if they make more money selling stihl or if new design of 372 causes issues.

List price on a Husqvarna 572 is $990, and they can be had for 900 or less. I would pick that over both if reliability is the definition of win.
