Husqvarna S2800 Splitting Axe - First Impressions and Review
A more powerful Splitting Axe made for splitting larger logs. The axe head has a non-stick coating which gives less friction and easy entry into the wood and the head geometry is adapted to the splitting application of large logs. Handle protection and long life due to the stainless steel shaft protection. Balance point close to the axe head gives perfect balance and weight distribution. The combination of the optimized axe head and the light shaft concentrates the power into the cut which gives an easier split of the logs. Fiber-reinforced PA shaft makes the axe durable and robust. Hammer function for an easy and effective use of splitting wedges (no steel wedges).

Fiskars X 25 First impressions and Review
Traditionally, an axe has a wooden handle. Fiskars has decided that even an old type of tool such as an axe can be improved. The fibreglass reinforced plastic FiberComp handle of a Fiskars-axe is stronger than a wooden handle. Testing indicates that where a wooden handle breaks, the FiberComp handle can keep going without a problem. The axe head is integrated into the handle and will not come off of the stem. The handle absorbs vibrations and increases grip and comfort during chopping. Fiskars is so convinced of the quality of this concept that the axes are covered by lifetime warranty.
The axe head has a very smooth coating, which helps you to get it out of the wood easier. This coating is very durable. The price of these axes is relatively low, the service life and quality can compete with much more expensive competitors.
Each axe comes with an innovative plastic protective case that is easy to confirm, not sensitive to moisture and can be used to carry or hang up the axe.
The Fiskars X25 is a splitting maul with a keil shaped forged axe head. The axe head pushes the wood apart and helps to quickly and effectively cleave medium sized and heavy logs or firewood. This splitting maul is a full size chopper is intended for much and intensive use.
The look and feel of the Fiskars axes
Fiskars makes a distinction between axes for heavy-duty use and axes for the lighter tasks. The axes for the lighter tasks are enhanced with a completely black axe head and are mostly great when making kindling and small logs. The axes for the more demanding tasks are enhanced with a silver-coloured cutting edge that masks traces of use. The plastic sheath of the heavy-duty axes is orange to make sure it stands out, making it almost impossible to lose it.

A better technique on big log even medium size is always split them from the side and working your way inward. Almost 100% of the time people slam right in the middle which more then often result by a stuck ax.

Excellent video showing the effort needed to split really tough logs and is a very good demonstration of the axes. It's the really tough logs that matter. I have split 100s of tons of tough logs and it's the tough ones that matter. Seen lots of videos of log splitting on easy logs but that is not interesting, anyone can split logs with no knots.

Wooly, I think you're a "hybrid" guy like myself. I like the old hickory, vintage style handles but there are advantages to having modern fiberglass handled axes. Hickory is very tough but there's something special about the Fiskars and Husqvarna axes. Try splitting that big beech round with an old felling axe, it can be done and it will split but the modern fiberglass handled splitting axes are manufactured to split a variety of wood. The purists don't want to hear that but, the older axe profiles generally have a slimmer wedge profile... hence "felling" axes. I love old and antique items especially related to forestry but these are really hard to beat. I can pay a third or a quarter of the price with a Fiskars or a Husqvarna (Gardena) vs. a Gransford or Hults Bruks. The beauty isn't there but the functionality is. I'm pleased with the look of the fiberglass handles too. Elwell is the axe I meant to tell you about on your Live Feed, not Elway.
@WoolysWorld

I have 2ft wide oak logs that need splitting to firewood. Taken from a 200 yr old turkey oak that collapsed due to rotted trunk. What is the easiest way to split the logs ? I think hitting a drop forged conical wedge with a 15lb hammer is more efficient, locating the wedge in centre of the log and marking a cross in centre with a chainsaw to encouraging radial cracking from centre. Agree, or anything better ? Not interested in hydraulic log splitters. Great review, think the husqvarna is better as it’s heavier and sharper so has more bite and won’t bounch like the fiskars.
@WoolysWorld

I agree with the axes, husky is much better, as for the fire wood I would look for existing cracks and exploit them with the wedges, and I'd start on the outside , easier to split

fiskars maul and x25 is a pretty unbeatable combo and costs the same as the single husqvarna here. Only criticism on the x25 is for mine at least the factory edge rolls over too easily on oak/ash/locust. From reviews the issue is inconsistent though so I'm not sure if its a wood or QC difference. I'd certainly have been up for getting a Husky axe, but they didn't appear to make a longer one, unfortunately. So, I got a Fiskars X27 - their "XXL" splitter - as I'm 6'5". With a standard length axe, I end up stooping and/or throwing the head at my shins...which, I guess, would eventually eliminate the problem of being too tall.

Avoid the Husquvarna due to the fact that it gets stuck easily (this is very apparent in the video). Bought the Husqvarna after seeing this video to add to my X25 and X27after the video. The power behind the Husqvarna is eclipsed by the fact that you can get 2x the amount of swing in with the Fiskars. And you use less energy swinging than trying to pull a stuck axe out of a log.

Great trilogy, great axes 👍 in my country I bought 4 years ago x25 for 60€ and husky costs 110 €...today prices are 75 for fiskars and 90 for husky. Well I see that husky is more heavier head and has a bit advantage over lighter x25. .. If you take same size head like x27 you'll get a longer handle that will give you more swing speed and more impact power. I mostly have beech and black locust...for that x25 is well enough, lighter as well. And fiskars doesn't bite that much like husky, like that better. That's my opinion but all in all you can't go wrong with either of one.

It seems that when cutting the second piece there was not as much force as when cutting the first piece, or the second piece of wood was a bit tougher. Otherwise, I don't have either of these axes, they seem very similar in terms of style, but in this case I would prefer the Husqvarna, which has a slightly heavier and larger head, and a better shaped hatchet, and is also cheaper. The Fiskars brand seems overpriced to me.

When you said you where going to test the axes head to head, i thought that you were going to split logs at the same time with an axe in each hand. I thought to myself 'that Wooly is some boy to do that! Twice the man I will ever be to do that.' I am hugely disappointed in the video as this was not the case! 😆😆😆 Seriously though, what is the difference between a splitting axe and a splitting maul? Is there one?

For such a job, I would always take the X27. Much more efficient than both of these small splitting axes. I have the Gardena S2800, similar to the Husqvarna and I would never ever use the 2800 like you do. You work your a... of with poor results.

Has to be one of the worst comparison videos I've seen, they weren't head to head, it was almost double the thickness of the first round, splitting on the ground rather than another round, not using the same piece of wood, it tells us nothing in reality, the fis x27 is more of a splitting axe, if you chopped 2 rounds from the same 4,6,er 8 ft log with a chainsaw, and went head to head there'd be no difference, the husky axe is good, but your test is an anomaly that doesn't prove anything, the second round was lower on tree than the first, hence more burls and knots, if your talking an ax for splitting rounds they're close to equal, except you purchased the shorter 25x fiskar and the longer 2800 husky, had you gotten the even handled x27 you'd find they bite the same and the fiskar likely splits 1ft rounds better, especially when they aren't being pounded into dirt and properly propped on top of a splitting round...the x25 at least in America and Canada is a canping/"boys axe" if your under 5'9 then it's perfect size for ya, but your test is still flawed
