Husqvarna ST224 - Will It Run?

My neighbor hit me up a few days ago and said he left fuel in his 1 year old Husqvarna ST224 over the winter and now it just wont run right. Let's get that fuel system clean. Thanks for coming along!

I had the same ‘soot’ in the carb bowl of my ST224. After cleaning the carb it ran for 2 hours continuously (2022 storm in NY) Now it’s surging again. Thanks for the video, I’m going to repeat and get after that filter in the tank this time.

might help to do a full overhaul of the tank. Possible remove and/or flush out to start fresh

you can leave fuel in these things over summer winter, you need to use 0% ethanol fuel and you won't have these problems, yes I own a 2021 st224

You are preaching to the choir! I use 0% or stabilized fuel for all of my machines and never have this issue either. My neighbor clearly wasn’t using good fuel at all 😅

Hey Bill - Glad you enjoyed. As I mentioned in the video this was a neighbors of mine so its not a machine that I have access to. What I do remember about it was that there was a plate mechanism that wrapped around the back of the engine to the other side, along the top. Hope that makes sense. Once that piece was removed, it all came off like a normal machine. I'm sure you've already tried to reference this in another search but I wish I could be of more help.

if it's only a year old, then either he's using old or low-octane fuel. using fresh, high octane (at least 90) gas will solve the issue. it might be his gas can if it's old or he isn't careful about what falls in it when the cap is off.

Use alcohol-free gas. You can leave it in there forever, no problem. Doesn't need stabilizer either. You can store it for 6 years. It's what I use in my snowblower and emergency generator. Both start right up every time, the blower after sitting for months with gas in the carb.

LOL I got the same one for free and mine runs great just has A small bent piece of metal in the impeller housing that I just have to hammer back out of the way of the impeller I can't believe what people throw away. I got it from A friend of mine who donates free outdoor power equipment to me.

Runs great now. Time to tell your neighbor to clean his gas can out before putting more fuel in his machines. Bet that's where the junk came from. You'll be fixing his mower this spring haha. 👍

Great video. Just wondering if you think it could be a carb or plugged jet issue with my blower Starts but seems to be running under power no jam like it use to.. I was using it all day then it died and started it back up and seems under power. What you think?

Wouldn’t hurt to give it a little tune up, new spark plug, clean the carb, run some non-ethanol fuel a couple times. How many hours if you had to guess? Or how many seasons has it been since it was made? Approx

So how do you get the choke and throttle knobs off? You skipped right past the part that’s screwing me up. I don’t want to just pull or pry only to end up breaking a hidden release. Seriously, all the talk at the start is not as valuable as seeing how to get this apart.

My vids aren’t as much “step by step how to” as you’ve probably figured out by now.. might be others who have posted on the Blower more specific to that which you are looking for. From what I remember the choke and throttle came off like normal.. there was an obnoxious metal plate that I wiggled out which was frustrating.

So I thought I would break the knobs if I tried to pull them off or pry them off but that's how you do it and I found out just by doing it finally I thought I was breaking the knobs but they were just a little stubborn but you can pry them off with a screwdriver or just pull them off

I finally got to the carburetor and replaced it and I only had to put it back together twice LOL once I got it back together I forgot to put the idler bar or whatever it is that goes from the carburetor to the knob and it started right up ran great snow the next week and ran it for at least 3 or 4 hours two-and-a-half tanks a fuel and I was able to pull started fairly easy after it ran for a little while

I just bought a Huskvarna 125 30HV from my neighbor. I remember when he bought it eleven years ago. My neighbor is 87 years old and since he has owned this machine he has been in very poor health and in and out of the hospital. He now is too weak to run this snow blower, so I bought it from him. It starts right up, and looks brand new but has a slight surge. I thought I would try putting a new spark plug and running Sea Foam through it. Getting to the carburetor looks like a big job in and of itself. I have bad hips so it's hard for me to work on things. What do you think of that approach??? this machine might have about twenty hours on it maximum!! He said he has always put a fuel stabilizer in it!!

There are fuel additives that claim that they clean carburetor jets. They only clean it so well but it’s only a few bucks and worth a shot. If the surge continues you might have to pull the carburetor and clean it manually. Let me know how it turns out!

I am working on one of these for a friend a no start he claims he just put fresh fuel in it. I tried yeah a no start pulled the plug was binding every half a revolution thats because the hex is not true with the body and when I saw what plug it was garbage a Torch and OEM for a LTC engine and it was soaked so cleared the cylinder of excess fuel and checked for spark ok gave the cylinder a charge of brakeclean dried the plug and tried again no luck rinse and repeat with a Champion used but the crossover for this engine it fired up and died checked the oil overfilled and fuel soaked. knowing what I have a soaked plug I know the carb is delivering fuel and that garbage plug not firing IN the cylinder the fuel washed past the rings into the crankcase a oil change and a bowl flush and a fresh NGK BPR6E it should run. A diesel mechanic by trade small engines my hobby kudos Chris just subscribed.
