Purchased a Husqvarna TS354 XD in 2019 new. Purchased with the 54 inch mower deck and the 42 inch two stage snow thrower with power lift. This garden tractor replaced my Toro 269H with the same features that I bought new back in 1998. The Husqvarna has been mowing and snow blowing for 2 seasons now, currently at 121 hours run time. A couple of comments to make based on my experience with the TS354 XD. The engine exhaust is an issue. If you stop the tractor for even 2 minutes while mowing you will get a 6X6 grass burn on your lawn. The grass does not die but will take about 3 weeks to come back green. The engine exhaust is pushed straight down to the ground and this really heats up the grass. The exhaust port does not point down to the ground but all the brackets close to the exhaust redirect the air down as it comes out. Also I can melt a good section of my driveway letting the tractor idle during snow blowing. I have found that I make sure to drive the tractor onto my driveway before letting it sit and idle or turn the tractor off for even short time periods when working in the garden. No more grass burn doing this. I have been reviewing how to redirect the exhaust but have not found a modification that I like yet. 2nd issue is the front tire clip used to hold the tire on. I have had the front right tire fall off three times now. Turning puts pressure it seems on the tire clip used to hold the front tire on. This clip pops off and the tire slides off the spindle. My old Toro 269H had a cotter pin on the wheel spindle. The Husqvarna TS354 XD uses what my Dad always called a "Jesus clip" because each time you would try to put it on or take it off it would shoot off and slide somewhere on the garage floor for you to try and find. I have replaced the clip just this week to see if it was a bad clip. I am not the only one that has seen this occur based on different forum posts I have read. Recommendations I have seen online is to drill a 1/8th hole in the spindle where the clip goes and replace the clip with a cotter pin. Going to try that this summer if I have the tire fall off one more time. Also bought the replacement front bushing wheel bearing conversion kit off of Amazon for the front tires to see if these two things resolve the tire falling off issue. Wheel bearing conversion kit: www.amazon.com/Husqvarna-AYP-Craftsman-532124959-Conversion/dp/B073YFSYM9 3rd issue I have run into is that when mowing I seem to have a strip of grass that always seems to be missed as you turn during mowing. I mow our grass fairly high so this may be the issue. Have reviewed leveling the mower deck and have sharpened the blades every other mowing, swapping in my spare blade set that I bought. Still working on this bug to find a solution. 4th issue gas tank gas gauge is a window just below the driver seat. Cannot really see the gas level very well. Again I was spoiled by my old Toro 269H it had an indicator light on the console that would go on when gas was low. I just attempt to religiously top off gas after each mowing. Now if I could get my boys to do the same would be great when they mow for me. 5th issue, although minor, I cannot put on the front brush guard in the summer that came with the tractor now that I have the snow blower attachment/electric lift setup without fully removing the front lift kit any longer. Minor really I guess but now the brush guard just hangs in the garage during summer mowing as it does not seem to be worth the effort to pull all the brackets on and off each season. I was spoiled by my old Toro 269H it was a hydraulic lift for the snow blower and mower deck. This made the transition from mowing to snow blowing very easy. The number of brackets to take off and put on the Husqvarna for each season is going to take time to get down to where it is second nature. For the price I do believe the Husqvarna 354 XD is a good garden tractor for the first 2 years of use. The next 18 will tell if it is as good as my old Toro 269H.

Thank you so much for all that! I haven't had most of those issues, thankfully. No burning issues on the lawn and I definitely stop as I mow. My driveway isn't melting either! I am in the NW, maybe our lawn is just different? I deflintely have missed strips on the turns (or here and there) I always assumed that was because I do not mow often enough and it gets bogged down. I just do a second swing over those and all seems ok. I also like a long lawn so I wait to cut it. If I could mow a 6" lawn I would. The gas gauge though, YES that sucks. I have run out of gas a few times because the window is hard to see through (ok and I maybe I forgot to check). I have noticed looking at the back of the tank behind the seat gives a better visual of the gas level. I also don't like the way the seat adjusts, it is a design flaw IMO. I have never sharpened the blades or done any work on it. I really don't have the tools (or experience) to do that! Perhaps I should get it in for service, before they get to busy (might be too late). I know I am hard on my equipment. Overall I am really happy with season one and looking forward to it's debut soon in Spring. It has done what I needed with comfort and power; hauling, cutting and well I guess thats all. LOL. It fired up in winter no problem too when I needed to relocate it. This will be it's second season of service, so fingers crossed I don't have the issues you are trying to resolve! Thank you for the heads up, I hope we both get 20 years of use!

@@paulwhite3498 I do not have a flat lawn and have definitely mowed significant slopes, it's actually why I did not get a 360 rotary type mower. The blade has not been an issue, but spinning out with the stock tires on grassy slopes happens. Some areas are sloped with mole holes, it used to be a much bumpier ride on the old mower. I find if I roll back and get a better grip I can carry on if I slip up. The 4 traction feature on here does help in those cases. It will move me forward easier when having an issue however it turns poorly in that setting, so I disable it for normal use. I can get a little adventurous and have fun powering through areas, I just expect this machine to do what I want and so far it has. lol

You could adjust the deck leveling system up to where the 3 1/2 " setting will cut at 4" height.

@@AscendingLogic Good so far! I am able to mow my slopes without sliding out of control. Thinking about add some fluid to the rear tires for more traction/stability but I will wait and see how it does once the fall rains arrive and the ground is wet.

@@AscendingLogic You replace most of the air in the tire with fluid (beet juice, windshield washer fluid, etc.). Farmers have been doing it for years in tractor tires. There's some DIY videos on youtube.

Congrats! I love long grass so I leave it as long as I can in summer... this mower let me get away with letting it grow for a much longer time. Once the tall grass gets to tall it's gotta go and this took it down with ease. Thanks for sharing!

BAHAHAHA D100 isn’t a real JD anyway, & this is much bigger & more powerful. -it damn sure better perform! I also have a TS 354D, and it does well. I love that 25HP Kohler engine. They didn’t come with LED headlights though. One issue I’ve had, is a constant blowing of headlight bulbs. When I put LED bulbs in, it was even worse. Has anyone else experienced this? Grrrrr The locking differential works well, and has kept me from getting stuck a couple of times already. They still ride like a buckboard on some of the rougher areas of my property, so a guy might need a sports bra for his man boobs.

I love that mower only thing that is a concern for me is it more fuel.efficient with the electric p,t,o.than the manual blade engagement .one other thing what type of engine is on that mower 🙄🙄??

Hi Robert. I really don’t speak engine, but all the specs are on the husqvarna website. Its a 4.5 gallon tank I believe. I’m mowing maybe 1-½ acres-ish and I estimate maybe 3 runs? Ish? Lol. I’m very happy with the investment 😊

you had a D100? that was a good mower. what happened to it? do you still have it?
@AscendingLogic
@AscendingLogic 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s about a decade old. It runs and I use it for hauling around the yard. the work I’ll need to make the mower proper doesn’t feel worth the investment. It wasn’t really ideal for the terrain I have but it was the best one we could afford.
@mrbubetube

@@AscendingLogic well the D100 is worth repairing because it was the last model John Deere made with a 5 gear transmission. they make all their 100 series mowers now with cheap throwaway hydrostatic transmissions that are designed to lose torque right after the warranty so people will throw the whole mower away every 3 or 4 years and buy a new one. John Deere doesn't use gear transmissions anymore because they last too long. If you sell that D100, you should be able to sell it for nearly the same amount of money that you paid for it, so don't let some shyster try and rip you off if you sell it. But it it was mine, I'd keep it running for as long as possible, or at least until John Deere went back to selling mowers with gear transmissions again.

mrbubetube thank you so much! Those scheisters have already tried lol. If I’d known better when I got it, it wouldn’t be in the condition it was now. I’ll do better with my new one and I’ll keep old Betsy rolling if I can! 😁👍🏻. BTW the new one is awesome.
