I’m not saying this to discourage anyone, but it’s a cold hard fact. No one is ever going to build a SUSTAINABLE, successful brand by using templates and clip art. It’s just not going to happen. You might sell some shirts, but you will hit a brick wall sooner or later because you are limited by your lack of ability to create your own designs. And using templates is NOT creating. I know not everyone’s an artist, I get that. But if you’re not an artist and can’t do the work yourself, you either need to partner with someone who can, or commission an artist to do what you need. If you genuinely want to build a brand that will survive long term. If all you want to do is sell a few shirts and cash out, then you can disregard what I said, but if you want a brand that will still be around in 5 or 10 years, there are no shortcuts. And I’m saying this with the experience of being in the industry for close to 20 years. Again, not trying to discourage anyone, I WANT as many people as possible to succeed. And that’s why I’m saying all this.

I’m starting a new brand and using Kittl, and I’m having a bit of a dilemma. I’m torn between putting most of my designs on the back of a T-shirt with a small chest logo, or a big graphic on the front. What do you all think?

Can't believe how quick I am on this video. Im literally watching every POD under the sun but now there's so much information, I don't know where to begin. I like the look of Kittls templates/ streetwear but I don't think it has a niche inside of it and don't know if it will perform well compared to simple designs. I know other KZbinrs go for marketplaces and others opt for Shopify, basically my brain is boggled on where to begin.

It's a great design tool! You would have to work outside of the clothing brand styled designs to get more of POD Etsy designs, but it does work. I know it's overwhelming in the beginning, but choose one business model and go for it! Shopify and marketplaces are definitely two different things but at least you already know that, a lot of people confuse the two.

Thanks! One more question, if I was to go to the Shopify route and focus on streetwear, is it okay to have no specific kind of niche? Similar to anime or retro design shirts, i would say it’s more of a style rather than a niche? So I could make a range of products surrounding this sort of style rather than a trend/ evergreen topics eg. Hobbies

Probably because everyone is doing it. AI is making it too easy for non designers to flood the market with generic shirts. Everything is looking the same because everyone is ripping each other’s styles off etc.
