May I suggest watching the video "Why do so many ADC players have main character syndrome", by Vars. I think the points made in that video are useful to analyze this one. Swain falls behind? No prob: he still has a great hook, an almost-global slow and a big, beefy body for TFs. Let's say Kai'sa falls behind; WTF does she provide to the team, other than a crappy poke from a somewhat-safe distance? ADCs need to deal damage, it's our only value. I lose lane, I deal no damage. If I try to recover by farming away from the team, I get flamed for not being with the team. Group with the team and I get no farm and do no damage, so I get double flamed.

@@KingVasuki Hmmm. What do ADCs (even behind ones) still provide to a team when played by someone who wants the team to win and not just focus purely on wether or not they are fed. Tank shredding, wave pushing and turret siege, objective DPS on Dragon and Barron. Some ADCs even have crowd control to help cc chain and secure picks. Of course if you're behind it will be harder to accomplish the DPS side, but that's the case for most champions and roles that do that. I'm talking about the mental. The "I'm not the Fed one, we can't win." Mental. If I get an ADC, I want one that knows how they scale, what items they need to get to powerspikes. And one that thinks "I got camped but my Mid and Jg are fed, I need to farm when I can and try to come back through shutdowns in team fights and helping DPS objectives and use my teams snowball to get myself ahead when I group." Instead of "I'm camped, my mid and JG are fed but this is hopeless. FF noob team."

@@KingVasuki objective dps, easy farm, distract assassins (they still go for 0/5 adc, if a person wastes an ult on you and you're useless thats great) as long as you're farming on your side of the map, nobody cares - its when feeding adc's PUSH OUT WAVES and just run it down on a sidelane, clogging up the map for actual sidelaners, that it becomes a problem. and not every adc is just damage - if you get behind on jhin, sivir, vayne, kogmaw, varus, etc - you can still provide tons of value for the team through picks, vision, or having damage that isn't completely tied to items.

This was so helpful. I’ve had some match ups mid lane where I literally preferred to die fixing the wave than to wait for jungle to give me a breadcrumb of help (they don’t understand that level of macro at platinum). Guess I can use this for top as well as mid

Great video! I mentioned this a while back (on your steams or discord?), I played swain top prior to transitioning to mid last season, and peaked GM consistently (with a lot of dodging of course) But on matchups that are unplayable or when i get stomped and cant simply walk in lane, I'd perma roam like this and buy spellthiefs for the income. This was even before roaming Janna top got meta. Half of the time I'd get griefed by my own teammates thinking i was trolling---refusing to listen to the thought process behind it. I hated it. But sometime S20-S22, a guy in KR server named Ady was doing the strat and got to challenger. In a way i feel validated at least😅.

Hello brother, I'm a Swain enjoyer and ADC main. I mostly play him in the botlane when my team needs AP or lacks a frontline. What builds would you recommend in s14 for swain bot? If my team lacks tanks I go ROA > Rylais > Frozen Heart and if I don't need to frontline as much I go Maligance and adapt afterwards. I'd like to hear from the swain god himself what he considers to be best.

Dying on your own terms in a bad matchup is probably the best thing you can do, just sitting back and letting them cut you off from exp makes you useless for the entire game while the opponent will be strong no matter what. Dying for waves and wave state allows you to still be relevant in xp, Bausens Law baby.
