What Esme described at 5:50 is actually sleep paralysis. It's a rare state of consciousness for most people where the part of your brain that separates the frontal cortex from the rest of itself during sleep doesn't operate properly, so basically your body falls asleep (and thus can't move) but your brain doesn't. Most of the time people affected by it start hallucinating because a part of the brain is asleep and the other isn't, so they just think it's a weird dream, but you're actually conscious.

word^ it happens to me almost each time I fall asleep on my back, I've had one really really bad experience but since then I found a trick to wake myself up. It's pretty simple but sometimes hard depending how deep you body is asleep. I just count to three in my head and on three I twitch, usually getting a finger to move is enough to snap out of sleep paralysis, hope this helps anyone

the sleep phenomenon you are talking about is sleep paralysis its when you mind wakes up but your body does not. it is considered pretty common

bobby holmes Yeah, and it's pretty insane to experience too! People usually see shadow figures above, on, or beside them. Trouble breathing is another big thing. A big reason this came about is from falling asleep on your back, or so I've been told. Happened to me once last year in 1 of the 6 days a year I've slept on my back lol
