It was such a revelation to find that the flower shoots of any brassica are delicious! Cabbage, kale, broccoli, mustard, I love them all.

Great update Huw, It's nice to have some dry weather as West Wales has been extracwet and windy this winter.The hot bed looks amazing and easily a month a head of a normal raise bed.I want to add more perennials and red currents and black currents are on my radar.

After doing no dig for 30 years, about 5 years ago started digging over one or two beds each year, the carrots had become, short and stumpy, dug one out the other day fed 9 for one meal and 2 for the rest of the week. Onions had a problem with wind, mulch and when they were being planted. This year planting in NZ's autumn will see how that goes.

I'm going to be starting some beds as no-dig. mainly because I need some extra beds that will produce right away. After a couple years, when the grass is killed off, I plan to loosen the subsoil.

Same. So many garden youtubers are up-sizing from a more relatable size garden into a huge space (like epic gardening too) and then I feel like they lose touch with what the average gardener is dealing with. I really hope Huw won't be doing the same 😔

Yes, all will be explained but you'll be pleased to know the main filming garden is actually about 1/4 the size of the current garden (all built just private) so I am downscaling in a sense, with other types of growing intermingled. I also live over 30min from this garden which is another barrier.

That purple broccoli could be good to seed save from, it may be more cold hearty than usual.

You say turnips aren't your favorite vegetable, but have you tried the red varieties? I and my husband personally think they're more flavorful, and are well worth growing over the white or purple types. I can recommend the variety Scarlet Ohno Revivial in particular. I've tried Hida Beni in the past but didn't have a good crop that year, and I'm trying Asuka Akane this spring to see what they're like. Also, have you ever tried Wall O' Waters for your tomatoes? They let you plant out frost tender crops a bit earlier than you otherwise would.

I don’t plant greens. They get so many bugs on them. I netted my cabbages and the white butterflies folded their wings to get through the net and I had loads of white fly. I composted them all!

Another great video Huw. I have an allotment which through no dig and module sown techniques has transformed my growing. I get up twice a week due to family commitments so watering can be an issue In summer sometimes so I've been trying to figure out a way. I have 16 2.4m X 0.75m beds I don't have power so can't pump a drip system, too many plants for a gravity drip system. I thought about homemade ollas but not sure how well they work in the uk. Have you ever used them? and do they work? or any other thoughts?

I do the opposite with my garden. I put the things I need to access most, farthest away. This forces me to walk through the whole thing most every day, so I notice more that needs to be done or kept on top of. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

I think that's most likely crows if you find they've been pulled up and left on top of the soil, this is what happens to us. I doubt any birds will eat them. If you put some short garden canes around the area and then put netting over them it will stop them doing it as they don't like nets. We had the same with garlic here, the crows watch us in the garden and when we planted the cloves and went in side they were straight onto the beds and pulled some up to see what they were.

You can tell by the smell when you rub the leaves. A black currant has the distinctive smell while red and white currants don't!
