HVAC Codes and Reset Procedure for Toyota and Lexus No tools required AC Diagnostic Codes and Reset

This is a short video to show you how to get the HVAC (air conditioner) diagnostic codes for your late model Toyota or Lexus vehicle or truck. This video shows the procedure on a 2017 LX570, but the same procedure will work on most Toyota and Lexus vehicles that have an "Auto" button and a digital temperature readout. Including Camry, Tundra, Celica, Corolla, Tacoma, 4runner, gX470, GX460, LX470, Land Cruiser, LS460, GS460, and other models.

OMG, big thanks bro!! My AC was running only driver side (Lexus gs350 f 2015) and passenger side was only warm ( it happened after my battery was too old and died while car was in garage) after the reset that you show here everything stabilized and working good again, my codes was 42,49,53,54,55. Didn’t work exactly as shown on my 2011 Lexus rx350 that wasn’t turning the ac on due to some diagnostic failure. Tried this but didn’t see any codes but now the ac settings are remembered and now starting properly. 🎉

I have 2013 Landcruiser giving a “00” code but there is an issue with the ac blowing cold only on the driver side. The passenger and rear climate has warm air. Any ideas?

Try to reset it using the reset procedure in the video. Then drive around for 10-20 minutes with the AC on. And change the AC modes to blow air out of various vents while driving around. Then come back and check the codes to see if any new codes are stored.

49 says it means "Rear air outlet damper control servo motor circuit". Could be a stuck damper/flapper?

Try resetting HVAC with this procedure, then try to drive it around for a while and read the codes again to see what it says.

Try to drive it around for 20min while switching between various ac modes. Then check the codes again to see if any codes reappear

Here’s the instructions I found for the RAV4. 1. PANEL DIAGNOSIS (INDICATOR CHECK) (a) Turn the ignition switch to LOCK. (b) Turn the ignition switch ON while simultaneously pressing the A/C control AUTO switch and the REC/ FRS switch. (c) Check that all indicators and the display area are turned on and off 4 times in succession at 1 second intervals.

Any idea how to reset the codes without a rear defrost button? My Toyota Tundra is showing 21 & 24 the solar sensors codes. It has a regular standard defrost button and one for the mirrors, but holding those don’t reset it. Any ideas what buttons to use for reset to 00?

If you’re doing the check code procedure in a dark place that could be the reason you’re getting the 21/24 codes. Try to do it again during the day in open air so it’s bright outside.

Im getting a 23 and a 97 code. I see on the list it says 23 could mean moisture in the system. I did recently replace my AC compressor and haven’t had the system evacuated yet could that cause my heat to not work? And also when I try to switch from cold to hot I hear a grinding/clicking noise from the glove box area. I have a 06 Gs300

If you have code 23 I would start with purging and pulling a vacuum in the system. Confirm it holds a vacuum. Then recharge the system. There's a good chance thats your issue.

Try to reset it with this procedure and see if that helps. If not, see what error codes it shows after driving it for 20minutes or so after reset. It could be the "mode door" that is not working correctly based on your description. But sometimes those things fix themselves with a simple reset too.

00 generally means there is no code. I would disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and reconnect it. Then drive around for a day or two and check the codes again.

Are you getting 41 and 48? Or just 48? I would start by checking to make sure the damper door is working properly. It is right behind the glove box where the cabin filter goes. Take a look at the code list in this link. Looks like it’s a pressure issue that could be multiple things. With any sort of pressure error I would recommend starting with verifying your system is correctly charged with refrigerant first. We had a problem on our 2017 where the rear AC would only blow from the lower vents no matter what setting or temperature it was set to. After I reset the codes like shown in the video it started working again like normal and has been great ever since. Have you tried resetting yours yet?

There's no way to change the error codes. Each code points to particular errors in the system. Did you try this procedure to get the error codes? Does it show which codes you have?
