How much does a new furnace or air conditioner cost? Prices are going up in 2023 and online resources don't reflect the current increase.
Due to supply chain issues, regulatory changes, and cost of raw materials, our HVAC suppliers have contacted us about price increases that are as much as 25% over last year.

Only a completely incompetent and disconnected government would decide to completely change the efficiency standards during a supply chain crisis.

Equipment price rise is moderate but installation cost has gone up crazy, in some cases 100%. I got a quote for 2-ton heat pump installation in 2021 for $5K and now it's $10k. The equipment went up only by $1K. We need more consumer-friendly DIY systems like DIY ductless systems. This resembles how shipping companies took advantage during the pandemic by blaming the supply chain.

Equipment goes up 4-7% every year, in recent years increases have become more frequent and less predictable. When the EPA is running the government this is what you get.

A price rise of 7% for equipment is 70 on 1000. Paying installation labor rates of 500-1000/hr is insane.

I had a Lennox system installed in 2003 that started to fail in 2021. I was quoted $5100 for a 2 ton HVAC system, I declined and went with the fix which was almost $2K. It worked fine until last week when it broke down(leak that damaged the compressor). I went with one of the new systems that runs the new 2025 refrigerant. Cost me $7500. Should have replaced it in 2021, but looking at the overall increase, it wasn’t too insane considering I have the newest tech that runs the new refrigerant. Plus it’s quieter and way more efficient.

The price dealers charge for the system and installation is criminal. The markup on the hardware is insane.

The truth is government mandates have had little effect on HVAC extended replacement costs. The manufacturing industry has known about the mandated changes and has been adjusting for over a decade and now all of the sudden when the mandates take effect they are blaming the increased costs of their units on the government. To be clear the regulations have caused some of the increases in price but not nearly what we are seeing in the purchase price. The HVAC manufacturers are, just like the American auto manufacturers, and big oil making up for lost profits during the pandemic. It's unfortunate, but that is the root cause of the inflation we are seeing and the step jump in equipment prices. Hopefully, they will level out here soon.

The manufacturers are also the ones lobbying for the regulation changes. Capitalism out of control..... In fact we stopped having capitalism years ago. My advice for people who cant afford it, Chinese window units. They have pallet loads of them at Walmart. I know China wins again but honestly, its American greed that has pushed everything offshore not the Chinese government pushing stuff on us.

"Is this ever going to come back down to reality?" "Mwuhahah! This is the NEW reality!" Manufacturers are quick to raise prices citing external factors (fuel, raw materials etc). When these pressures are removed, prices rarely, if ever return to "normal". You as the consumer are "used" to paying the higher price, and the stockholder is used to the higher dividends.

I'm disabled and low income. My AC unit is 23 years old. Temperatures in my region (Pacific Northwest) have been increasing steadily year after year. We reached 116° last year. It's unheard of. Prices of AC units have gone up $2,500 this year. Lowest price is now $7,000. I'll never be able to afford one and I'm looking at either sweltering to death or losing my home. Learned this the other day during my yearly maintenance. Wish they'd told me this last year.

R-454B is the new refrigerant, It is very simular to what we use now R410A in pressure however it is slightly flamable but systems will come with a disapation system which consist of a refrigerant sensor and a migration circuit board to disapate the refrigerant by running the blower motor if a leak in the air handler inside coil is detected. All recommended best practices for installation proceedures will be required. plus a 1 hour nitrogen hold test will be required. I would expect pricing to go up in equipment but more on the labor and company cost, My thought is the government should subsidise the banks to give low interest rates on loans for this forced green technology because my company's price will be going up.

Got a quote for a 2 ton system in Houston and they told me $18,000, got another quote and it was $22,000. Crazy prices and they try to push 60 month financing. Crazy high right now. Waiting on further quotes but luckily I have two units and one works plus a window unit.

I hope you negotiated a better price. I have found 3-5k differences with different dealers. What's sad is that most of the equipment is built in TX. Her in LA a 4 ton runs 11 to 12k for mid range 15 seer. You can get Goodman for 10k...

Yeah, their new sales pitch is "it's like buying a new car". Every single company uses that line it seems. No, buying an AC unit shouldn't be like buying a new car. Cars are overpriced too.

@@robertb67 I was able to replace the EVAP coil for $2,200 by an AC tech that does side work. It’s been running good for 10 months, if I get a few more years out of it that would be worth it. The Daikin guy wanted $22k for the Daikin fit. I asked him if they are selling a lot and he said not really people keep repairing their old systems.
@robertb67

@@teflonjim Yeah, I was in a similar spot as you. I had an 18 yr old Heil unit that had a slow leak in the evap coil. I was quoted a couple of years ago that it was 2k to repair it, but they didn't recommend it because of how old my unit was. Instead, since it was a slow leak, I just had them put some refrigerant in it and it ran fine for two years, but then last month the compressor died. Since the unit was 18 years old, with a dead compressor and leaking evap coil, I just bit the bullet and got a new entry level Trane XR13 unit for 12k, including install. Seems like a couple of years ago I could've gotten the same unit with the install for 8k. Prices are ridiculous now.

I'm reading articles where U.S. households are cutting back on toiletries and the prices of new HVAC systems are considerably higher than they were 4 years ago. I wonder how many households can afford new HVAC systems?

You’re claiming to see increases of only 15 to 25% when the cost of a brand new HVAC has literally doubled all the while manufactured HVAC’s being shipped to the US has been peaking at highs. Literally more ACs are being sold yet they’re still managing to keep the price at double from what it was. Every HVAC company I personally know has grown their business and added multiple fleets of vehicles since covid. However, if you call around and get multiple quotes from different companies, the price is almost exactly the same so from what I gather the installers aren’t screwing over the consumer it’s the manufacturers , who never stopped profiting.

Aluminum coils are absolutely horrible! Aluminum line sets are a joke. The refrigerants, even the 410a, are going through the roof. Like 2.2X's... The same with copper. Change outs are 30% higher. California is already mandated these changes. I was hoping our prices were going to go down. Some shit bird, sitting some where is smiling big time!
