I thought I would add that this is Cat 3 and 4 rated and true RMS. But, the problem with seeing the display in sunlight means I will not be using this.

Maybe refrigeration guys who work inside can benefit from some of the features without having to suffer over the display. And hey, since Kaweets sent it to you, they are likely interested in your review, and may change their display.

I have a cheap Chinese meter that is similar to this. Mine has an LCD display that is hard to read but it is great for occasional use. I also bought a cheap thermometer to read the subcooling on my home condensing unit. That thermometer works great.

I have had the identical Habotest HT208D for about a year and found it to be a good buy and it matches your review completely (pros and cons). It is consistently in close agreement with other (good) meters and is more than adequate for basic multimeter tasks as well as measuring inrush current, temperatures, NCV, etc. In my opinion it is certainly worth the Ebay price (currently around $60) for the typical homeowner/hobbyist. (There are several very technical reviews out there for those concertned about high precision. ) Nice Review!

The Habotest seems downgraded in some aspects. probes are not the same as in Kaiweets that are heatresistant silicone variant.. on the Habotest HD208D its the most n4sty plastic variant you can get from eh CN fleemarket. also got the Habotest.. was on sale for 40 bucks. (euro) with incl. shipping and danish 25% VAT. but again 40 bucks with incl, VAT and shipping .. you really cant complain.. as it is quite a feature packed 1000A AC/DC clamp meter, just get some better leads if you plan to use it as a DMM. the voltage range is quite sensitive and easily picks up hz from just holding it near. not sure how fast the inrush is.. but recall something about 100ms but its needs a certain current load.. same if you want freqhz in the dual display and the same for the lower end of the margin ac/dc current with the clamp.. need a few hundred mA's

@@JAKOB1977 Feels to me like the meter is actually made by Habotest, and got rebranded and packed with better leads by Kaiweets. The Kaiweet and Habotest meters appear identical and both are called HT208D. Not KC208D. In fact, all Kaiweet's clamp meters but one are all called HT{something}, and identical to the ones Habotest has. The only difference is Habotest is still selling the cheaper older HT200D which is not on Kaiweet's website. Uni-T, Mastech, and Habotech are from Dongguan. Zoyi, CEM, Kaiweets are in Shenzhen. Mestech, Victor, and Aneng are in Guandong. It's a very high concentration. Of the 10 largest clamp/multimeter manufacturers in China, 8 of them are all in an area within 100 miles of each other.

I had an Ideal meter shortly after they bought Speary that was not an amp clamp and it was set up alot like that on the dial. Drove me nuts when DC was the first settings. I got a Fluke instead. I do have an ideal amp clam that has end view which is really nice since I do electrical also. Good review though

Great video Curtis but I also noticed on my fieldpiece hs36 the dc communication on inverter systems will fluctuate and the auto range does not like that. On my fluke I get a steady fluctuation of voltage but the auto range ones will give you the ghost reading. So that is something to keep in mind on the new inverter and vfd systems. But other then that there great meters. Thnx for sharing

@HVACGUY I have the HT208D and do not get any inrush reading when my AC compressor starts up. Kaiweets tells me that if the inrush current is not above 10A, there will not be any reading on the meter. Do you know if this is true and have you tested inrush on anything less than 10A?

There is a big problem with the clamp multimeter is NCV detection. It's seems too sensitive. It detect the hight voltage line about 50cm. And the Live detection work as not as right in manual guide. When the low voltage is detected the L character is not display insteed show Live and did not beep sound.

Would you have any worries about it using 3 1.5v batteries rather than 9v. I'd be worried about battery life and maybe reduced power on resistance testing, though not sure if that's sorted electronically in the meter.
@HVACGUY
@HVACGUY 2 жыл бұрын
No, that wouldn’t be my concern
@uxwbill
@uxwbill 2 жыл бұрын
The three 1.5 volt batteries contain much more energy than the nine volt battery. Without the constant backlight, this meter would run far longer than one powered from a nine volt battery. There will be no meaningful difference in the resistance testing range's capability. In both cases, the resistance testing circuit in a DMM operates at a very low voltage (about one volt) and at very limited current (usually a few tens of microamps maximum with the probes shorted).

The AA cells are much preferred over the usual 9V batteries. I'm happy they went with that as I don't like buying 9V batteries due to their high cost and low capacity.

@@sadfur8728 But this takes AAA batteries, not AA :(
@sadfur8728
@sadfur8728 Жыл бұрын
@@DougWoodrow you're right, AAA is their trade-off for the size, but I still like them better than 9V for most everything. Only advantage to the 9V is that they don't tend to leak and corrode the contacts over long term use like alkaline AAA and AA batteries.

The 206D had a more usable display, so while most everything else was improved in going to the 208D, that was a step backwards just for the sake of impressing with pretty colors 😉

@sadfur8728 Жыл бұрын
@@nhathuyvo5257 battery life isn't really a concern since the AAA batteries last long enough and work with rechargeable cells, but if your main use is outside in sunlight, I'd skip it and get another model. I don't like the 206D because of the lack of range hold though, so I'd skip that one.
