@@ridleyroid9060 Scummy bosses and greedy businesses are as old as time. And when they inevitably make a mistake, even after it's well-known, they can't just admit it and promise to fix the problem, because that will make the line go down. And we can't have the line go down, it must go up forever. On the other side, some companies like Nvidia have ballooned based on smoke and mirrors, riding wave after wave of buzzwords like metaverse, crypto and now AI. When their new products have never been less impactful to actual consumers. I know the global economy is basically held together with optimism and _good vibes_ but the current situation (not just in tech but in general) feels like a thousand South Sea Companies just waiting to burst.

Bad people are winning more and more because society is becoming increasingly anti intellectual. People hear reasonable well thought out arguments and discard them wholesale in favour or a loud obnoxious person who they see as a hero purely for selling them on a fall guy and on being a strongman. AI (LLM) Temperature tuning means that word choice is flexible, and it'll chose the option it has 10% confidence in over the option it has 40% confidence in *some* times. And this makes for better, more natural writing more often. But, picking "2020" when you're 10% sure (because, well, it's a year, and it's close to 2019) instead of "2018" which you're 80% sure (because that's what all but one sources agree is correct) is the kind of garbage only LLM summaries can be. Getting different answers is a feature. It's an integral part of the model. The problem is it's totally willing to pick the 2nd or 3rds best "fact", even if it's very confident that the 1st best is correct. "close enough" is basically fine when you're describing the form and color of some background detail that you're not supposed to closely examine. It's usually better than just a blank wall. But "AI" designers and users need to learn the difference between important factual tokens that *should not* be high Temperature, and syntactic fluff that a synonym for is acceptable.

It will also quite often just blithely ignore instructions you give it and do whatever it wants, particularly in terms of running down a more popular path of narrative or reasoning when you're trying to get something more niche or unusual out of it. Combining the two things together leads to a frustrating heap of garbage output, which would probably seem coherent enough to an independent reader at first glance, but is neither what you asked for nor particularly accurate or well written (lots of trite cliches...) when you do any cursory analysis. So far I haven't been particularly impressed with pretty much any AI interaction I've had. Probably there's things it does well but they don't intersect with my own needs and uses. And even where you see, say, someone has made an actually really great piece of AI art ... it turns out that there was an awful lot of actual manual work and tuning and refinement and do-overs (lots of inpainting, combining different LoRAs at differing weights, upscaling, use of eye/hand auto-fixers, depth map and pose/expression editing stages, etc) required to get that result, with what you get from the initial shot being an alright foundation to build upon but complete sloppy junk in its own right. And, well, thats basically the case here I guess. If you treat it like early days Wikipedia and treat the actual copytext with deep skepticism but follow up the sources instead, putting in the extra legwork, it's kind of alright. But if you just take the first stage raw output, it's useless, and you'd have been better off just getting the unprocessed search results in the first place. Sort of like how you'd probably get a better result in terms of time and energy (including expensive electricity) invested vs one-time monetary expenditure in finding the artist(s) the AI was trained from and commissioning them to create the artwork you have in mind... (or likewise a written piece)

If we take it at face value, for argument's sake, then to mine ears it sounds like Intel messed up their specs and guidelines to motherboard manufacturers. If the chips are the same, then the difference between Intel's internal testing and external reviews would be the boards. Either way it's Intel's L, IMO.

Thank you for calling out the AI BS - it's really desperately needed, especially in the tech enthusiast space. Honestly I'm so incredibly tired of how the tech industry has gone from "Hey look at the cool stuff we make, it can do all this incredible stuff!" to "Hey, this year we've tried our best to invent a new 'revolutionary'-but-useless use case for this new expensive hardware we made, please give us more money". I mean, I get it - under capitalism, stagnation is death, and during the past 20 or so years the tech industry has grown from an important niche to dominating nearly every sector of human activity. Which of course means saturated markets and stagnation, plus that all the low hanging fruits for performance have long since been picked. So now they're facing massive stagnation and even regression as all our tech is suddenly pretty much good enough and nobody really wants or needs yearly or even biannual upgrades anymore, and so they keep trying to invent "revolutionary" tech to keep driving new sales, from crypto to VR to blockchain to AR to NFTs to the metaverse to now AI. It's all the same borderline scam, driving corporate FOMO to keep sales high for another year before things come crashing down as product improvements slow and become more expensive, hardware lasts longer, and people start seeing past the hollow promises of new tech.

@@alexandruciordas4941 Even if we're going to ignore value and power consumption (which are all valid factors for consideration) your statement is inaccurate. In many titles, the 2 generations old 5800X3D from a few years ago still beats Intel's best offerings (even the 14900k) in both FPS and 1% lows while consuming 1/3 of the power and being cheaper. If we factor in value and the price of the components/power consumption then AMD has been competitive long before they brought X3D to the market.

Assuming GeForce NOW isn't lying, 94% being under 100 hours, means that they could safely double it to 200 hours with at worst a 6% increase in server use. Pretty sure they're just trying to sell GeForce LATER. Even assuming that the other 6% are on 24/7, they're only saving (and reducing queue size by) 37% for a pretty big cut in service usability.
@sirmonkey1985Ай бұрын
gotta make an excuse for GeForce NOW PRO for 200h. then GeForce NOW PRO Ultimate for unlimited.
@bobson_dugnuttАй бұрын
No it would be more than a 6% difference. Possibly significantly more. Probably like gym subscriptions the pricing is only feasible because a lot of subscribers forget to cancel or are barely using the service. For example if you had: 94 users averaging 15 hours per month each for a total of ~1410 hours 6 power users averaging 100 hours per month each for total of 600 hours For a total of 2010 hours per month. Now if you double the power users to 200, the total is 2610 hours, which is an increase of around 30%. It's only a 6% increase if you assume the 94% using less than 100 hours are using like, 99.99 hours on average.
@bobson_dugnuttАй бұрын
Just for context, on AWS a relatively crappy instance with a Nvidia T4 GPU costs 20 to 50 cents per hour. 20 cents per hour for a machine with a RTX 4080 is relatively cheap.

Where garbage tier articles are written (or generated by another AI) and list thousands of nonsense sources to push their own trusted-by-Gemini factor up and become the new "truth". Heck, we've got another future already in development. At some point the AI's are going to read about their own mistakes, not understand the problem, and double down on old failures. If the AI overview comes and reads this video, it'll just be added as another source that says "The 2700 was released in 2020" Source: Gamers Nexus HW News, 2024.
