Everything about Hyacinth/Patricia Rutledge is hysterical. The shrill voice down to her high heels on the driveway! The floral prints and hats. And let’s not overlook her “country” look! Constant laughter and enjoyment. I can’t see Keeping Up Appearance too often!

This "character-relationship' rings true in so many different countries; The hen-pecked husband, the ever influencing frustrated socialite ? RIP Mr. Bucket! Where are Roy Clarke and Harold Snoad these days ? I think I need to have a chat with them ? and not via the chat box of modern technology; The old fashioned one people have forgotten how to indulge in ? Never Star-Struck, but struck By the stars regardless. What a great lady! Patricia, I would be SO HONORED if you would reply to my comment! I was listening to Pavarotti and the Three Tenors, and kept thinking, "now if Patricia would have done this with a serious classical piece. EVERYONE would have been glued to their seats waiting for her rendition of their great one! Would you ever consider singing a song by an unknown songwriter, YOUR way, and with a bit of comedy ? I thought the classical guitarist and arranger might have quit on me when he heard the rough; He WENT for it and surprised me immensely! Please "see" "Opera at its Worst!" by a student of opera who knew she was not a "performer," but never gave up creating? I would be SO HONORED! And YOU could have SO MUCH FUN with it- being a singer who could really have carried it off partially, seriously? Title it "Keeping up With the Voice!?" Cause we KNOW you certainly have several of them, and they ALL GOOD! LyndaFayeSmusic@gmail.com

@marinazagrai1623
@marinazagrai1623 4 жыл бұрын
Soundseeker...she was normally nimble, I would say...also, it was her character who was more or less "nutty". She wasn't too old to be nimble. I watched her sing opera, so she's the Renaissance woman/performer etc. She is an artist in the true sense of the word; some actors are classified in certain roles but she plays all wih equal justice - the performance (opera) that I saw was not a satire or anything comedic as she does in this series.

Dame Patricia Routledge was an icon. A wonderful actor and comedian. But she could also SING...!!! And i mean operatically sing. As she was trained that way. I've heard some of her performances here on KZbin and being a singer myself i was extremely impressed. She really could do it all. And she is so deserving of everything she's accomplished. A very learned and sophisticated lady for sure. Thank you for uploading this brings back a lot of memories.

I own the whole series and even today, thirty years later, the expert comic timing is still spot on. I laugh as hard today as I did in the 90s when they were still making new shows. There are only 44 episodes, but perhaps Dame Patricia Routledge was correct in stopping the series before it became stale. I still would like to have known how she recuperated after that last accident (in the last episode) that took her off to hospital!!

"Harold Snoad" is the most British name I've ever heard. Sounds like a PG Wodehouse character.
