I'm going to say it again: Joon is a musical/lyrical genius. Man, everything about him is beautiful -- his intelligence, his mind, heart, drive, ambition, purpose...HE'S beautiful, inside and out. He has ALWAYS been a genius, especially when it comes to music; u could totally feel his vibe and his type of style of music he makes. THIS IS SO HIM. I freakin love the chill, authentic, nostalgic, old and new, and realness of it and the MELODY WAS PERFECT! I couldn’t even imagine what the melody would be like if THIS wasn’t it! The bgm, the video production was so dope...a music video wasn’t needed (but best believe if he did one I would WATCH it! I can totally see how he would do it too); HIS VOCALS!!! His type of music is A MIX of everything it’s ridiculous; that’s what he is, A MIX/A BLEND of EVERYTHING. Just beautiful Joon, oh ma gawd - plus I listened to this when it first came out but I just decided to add my two cents lmao but honestly I love it. He deserves it. It felt like deja vu like I heard this before a long time ago and it’s amazing. He’s also so damn CLEVER, cuz at first it sounded like play on words, I heard: I love your soul/I love you so; I hate you so.... I live in you....like come on it’s so sweet. Beautiful. Like if I were to make music, I would have the type of vibe and essence he has...I even felt that from his 1st album which blew me away. I always knew that he was capable then and now. His entire album was absolutely magnificent. I really am blessed to live in a generation where I get to witness a true artist (there’s many) but Joon is in a category all by himself. It took me a long time to understand what these lyrics really meant, not only to Namjoon, but to me. The feeling of loving the place you live, but at the same time hating it. Hating the smell and the haze, and the hustle, but growing to love it. Hating how everything stays the same, but growing to love that as well. The feeling of wanting to leave and move on like all of your friends, but you feel like you can’t because this is your home. Namjoon was right, in this case, love and hate really are the same word. I agree with you. When you go to a city to live there for the first time, it is very easy to fall in love with all of the lights and buildings. It seems so fun and you feel like a part of a greater community. Only when you realize how busy and faceless every person you pass by you will feel hatred towards it. All the pollution, the noise and the distracting lights would make you tired of the place and want to go home. But when you are away from it, you will realize that it has become your home as well. I can say that I was captured by the line: “I love you Seoul, I hate you Seoul” cause as he mentioned early in the start of the song, Seoul does sounds like “soul”. This is how I felt about it: He's playing with the words, not making it clear if he's saying soul or Seoul. I feel like he means that sometimes he hates the city for the ambient it holds, but sometimes he hates his soul for feeling like that about it when it's still part of him. But that's the point, it's just part of him. That's why he keeps mixing Seoul and soul, love and hate, and creating THAT feeling. Isn't love, isn't hate, is just both of them creating a new feeling which takes place of his soul.

“And the Han Rivers that bear too much Han” - the “Han” here sounds and spells the same as Han River and Hanguk (Korea in Korean) but it means something completely different. It doesn’t have an exact counterpart in English but its meaning encompasses sadness, despair, sorrow, regret and frustration. In this particular context, I think RM is referring to the lingering frustration and sorrow that Korea as a nation and its individuals had to go through to get where they are today. And he brilliantly brings it up by tying it with Han River - the same but different “Han”. So in the end, the whole song has a parallel with things that sound similar but have different meanings, like “soul” and “Seoul” and “Han” and “Han”. But each word is illuminated by each other to portray the ironic but beautiful relationship between them. TL;DR: RM is a genius

Okay but this is why he is my bias. His lyrics are so beautiful, I love them. He chose BTS over being a soloist, that was his best choice his whole entire life. I don’t really comment often, but I just want to say this song means a lot to me. Not because of the meaning of the song itself, but because of how it’s helped me. As I was born in Seoul and still live in Seoul, this song makes me kinda overwhelmed and moved. I can relate to the lyrics a lot. The video really shows the scenery I see a lot in Seoul. I never knew Seoul could come to me as such a melody. And as a Korean, I'm really proud of him for making many people know about Seoul and Korea. Thank you Namjoon. As a person who is born in Seoul and living here my whole life, I little bit shocked by this music. The melody, lyrics, and even the movie represent the exact same of how I feel about this city. Seoul is such a dynamic city. People in the street moving fast and everything changes so quickly that it’s hard to follow even for the seoulites like me. I live in the south side of Han river and my workplace is in the north side of river. So everyday I cross the bridge of Han river by bus. The river is quite wide (it’s 1km). And looking at the outside through bus window after day’s work, the night scene looks SO beautiful with all the lights splending by the huge river. But at the same time the huge water looks so dark and empty. I feel loneliness and tiredness of city through it. I always wanted to leave this city when I was 20. But in middle of 20s I suddenly realized one day, that I actually love this city even crowded subway and tiredness of busy people. This music shows Seoul’s ironic feature so well.. Loneliness and tiredness hidden in fancy-dynamic looking mask. Sorry about my English if you read this. I just think RM is genius that’s all.

Me too! I love crossing the bridge by bus or train. I can see Yudido like that at the end of the M.V when i cross the river and the scenery changes by the weather everyday. I love that. I still don't like the tiredness of this city though bcoz i'm always exhausted. The lyrics actually depicts Seoul in a rather depressing way i think, but the M.V is beautifully made with nice images of the city lights and sceneries. I love the colours of this video. Same! Only I live in NYC, but I'm sure it's the same. I love it here but I also hate it. There are times when I thrive off the energy of this city, and other times it drains me. Sometimes I love the feeling of being lost in a massive crowd and other times it makes me feel unberably lonely. Sometimes I love how connected everything is and other times it makes me feel claustrophobic. The fast pace of everything either makes me feel alive or utterly burnt out.
