In this tutorial we'll look at the concept of 'hybrid mixing', and what setups and routing you could have for homestudio's and smaller projectstudio's.
Hybrid mixing is basically working with both digital and analogue equipment in your setup, and thus using the best of both worlds! There's obviously many types of setups and different approaches to working like this, but we'll just look at the basic concept in this tutorial.
I hope you guys have learned something today, if you like these videos please subscribe to this channel and check out the website where I, besides many articles, also have some freebies you can download!

At last, a KZbin channel where the person doing the explaining/teaching has some pedagogy skills. Thank you for taking the time to explain things in a clear and concise manner, while also taking the time to preemptively answer many of the 'when, where, why' questions students may have have. Explaining such questions, before they are asked, is certainly a hallmark of great teaching --certainly a skill 95.5 of KZbin channels lack.

THANK YOU for doing videos on integrating hardboard gear into your studio and daw. I'm considering adding some pieces. So few ppl explain how to use them as inserts. Looking forward to your next video. Please try and explain connections and routing also. Thanks man. Love your channel and welcome back! 👍

Thanks for the video. I’m in the middle of mixing with Ableton. I’m using a Midas M32R as my sound interface and just coming out of the masters of Ableton to 2 tracks on the console. Now I’m going to assign every track in the daw to its own output going into the console and this will allow me to use the gates, comps and eqs on every channel and turn the entire channel up or down without adjusting the overall automation of the channel. The M32 also allows you to digitally record 2 tracks right to a usb drive.

rik deluca here is the signal flow my friend: musician plays into a microphone >then the signal flows into the consol of your choice> then the put from the MIXING DESK/ CONSOL goes into your audio interface. ( this format records the effects etc. From the mixing desk depending on how the outputs are routed.) ( 1. Most people configure their desk to record directly from their desk so you will NOT RECORD ANY EFFECTS just a clean signal. 2. If you want to record the musician with effects from your consol into your computer/ recording device you music route, the signal from the effects sends of your desk to the computer.) If you have any further questions let me know I will make a video in detail explaining my personal setup

Tbh I’m stuck in choosing the appropriate mixer. I’m in between a Korg MW mixer or the new Tascam Models. I own a TR8, TB3, Korg KP3, Microkorg, CDJ, MPC, Guitar, Piano, Bass Guitar, a Boss Over-Drive Pedal, and a Boss Sp Sampler as of right now. So for a total of 11 hardware pieces/equipment what mixers are generally suggested? (including channel wise) I’m new to music and producing and would like to learn how to a build a workflow with mixer integration. Thank you!

Thanks for making this video. You confirmed a lot for me. But in SetUp 2, you would have LEVELS and EQs in : Ableton, the Audio Interface software, and on the Analog mixer. Would i need to monitor them all or just use one of them? How would you do it? Please Answer!

Hey, great video! I'm currently using a hybrid mixing setup with a 16 i/o AD converter (Motu 16A thunderbolt) and my computer is a MacBook Pro with specs of 2.7 ghz Intel core i5 processor and 8 gb of ram. I've found that my computer is much too slow to play projects of up to 100 tracks on Logic Pro X while simultaneously recording and input monitoring-- in fact it's too slow to play the entire song without a system overload. What do you think are good specs to have for a MacBook upgrade so I can run, input monitor and record my tracks through a hybrid setup with minimal interruption from system overload?

+wickiemedia I'm concerned about signal loss and degradation. If I send a stereo out or stems from my board to my DAW for mix down, don't I run the risk of losing signal integrity? I am used to mixing down in the DAW. It seems that is probably not the best method. Also, don't you loose some signal by using patchbays? If not, how so? I'm new to mixing like this but it seems like the more professional way of doing things. I know outboard gear is a crucial player. Please advise. Maybe this can be a tutorial?

Hey, I am an aspiring engineer who's young and looking to move towards more professional grade recording, and I have an old 32 channel 8 bus Mackie, and I'd like to incorporate it into my current mixing setup. (PC Decsktop w/protools 10, FL, & Ableton, Macbook Pro w/Logic, Novation 49 key midi, Bx5 studio monitors, and a couple of Behringer Xenyx mixers w/fx) I know I'll need a good audio interface, so I'm looking at the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 to replace my fastrack. But thats as far as I know. Will I need anything else? Am I in over my head? Any recommendations?
