I apologize for the text, I am writing through a translator. I am an adult learner. At home I play a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-785. And at the music school where I take lessons, I play acoustic pianos. And on acoustic pianos I often had missed notes. But this doesn’t happen to me on the CLP-785. Then I figured it out and started raising my fingers higher when playing acoustic.

Thank you for your comment. On the Clavinova models this issue does not exist, they are only digital and are different from the way an hybrid piano is made.

I think the repeated note issue is common on upright pianos due to their hammer action. Yamaha is probably using an entry-level upright piano action for nu1xa. The sound is great.

I agree with you about both your points.

I wonder how the simulated grand action on the Roland lx9 compares for repeated fast notes

Hello, I confirm that the missed notes reaction during playing on one note is common with all types of upright pianos, let’s say that it’s identical for upright action and levers.

Thank you for your comment. Many classical trained pianists probably wouldn't ever notice this "issue". I should have pointed out that I use the piano sometimes as a master keyboard and in many cases some samples are programmed to produce a sound also with an exaggerate soft touch. For these applications, I must say that an hybrid piano with upright action is not the best option.

Thank you so much for the review! If you have to choose between Yamaha CLP885 and Yamaha NU1XA, which one would you choose? Which one sounds and feels closer to the real acoustic piano?

Thank you for watching my video and writing me. I haven't tried the Yamaha CLP-885 but it belongs to the "Clavinova" series while the NU1XA is an hybrid piano. For the sound I wouldn't rely on a video review or audio samples: I would try in person before making a decision. These pianos are both high-quality digital pianos, but the main difference I would highlight is in the Keyboard Action and this was my main concern when I decided to go for the hybrid: the CLP-885 features the GrandTouch keyboard with wooden keys, synthetic ebony and ivory keytops, and counterweights for enhanced responsiveness. The NU1XA utilizes a real upright piano action, providing a more authentic acoustic piano feel. The decision depends mostly on your needs and preferences. Generally speaking the CLP-885 is great for those who want a high-quality digital piano with advanced features and a powerful sound system, while the NU1XA is ideal for those seeking the authentic feel of an acoustic upright piano with the convenience of digital technology. The best thing to do, if you have the chance, is going to a store where they have both of them for you to try. You will spend a lot of time on the instrument and before buying it you want to make sure you don't have surprises once you get it delivered. 🎹

@@LucianoLombardiMusic Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and recommendations. My wife and I are trying to get a piano for our sons who have been taking lessons for 2-3 years. Ideally, we want to get an upright acoustic piano but due to our limited space in our household and benefits of being able to practice with headsets on while other children are either sleeping or doing their homework, we thought digital piano was the way to go. We went into the store the other day and 2 models basically caught our attention but couldn’t really decide between the two. According to the staff who work there, CLP 885 supposedly has more grand piano like sound versus NU1XA has more upright piano like sound. Also CLP 885 has 4 speakers vs NU1XA has 2 speakers. However, I personally thought NU1XA sounded more real and keys also felt closer to the acoustic piano so I was very conflicted. Just like you recommended, we will probably go into the store one more time to compare the two with some of the things you mentioned in the comment. So thank you so much for the reply and we love your in depth review of NU1XA video like this. 🙏🏼 😊

@@promanstyle9252 you are welcome and thank you for your kind words, I'm glad that my video somehow helped. I have updated my message above as I kept writing NU1X instead of the correct one, NU1XA. Yes, as I said, the main difference is on the action: with the NU1XA you can actually hear and feel the hammers hitting the soundboard. Even when the piano is turned off, when you press the keys you hear the noise inside the piano as it is actually generated by mechanic moving parts. The CLP-885 probably comes with more sounds and other features, but it won't feel the same as the hybrid. All the benefits you mentioned can be found on both pianos: but the hybrid is closer to the acoustic world than the Clavinova. Also, in today's digital world, with a good laptop and a set of sample libraries you can always expand the list of sounds if you (and your sons) think that the NU1XA is "limited". Last thing, although I somehow already mentioned: try to go to the store let's say 30 minutes before they close, when hopefully there are no people playing other instruments or other noises: ideally it should be all quiet so that when you try the NU1XA you can actually enjoy the action with no distractions. Feel free to add a comment here once you make your final decision. Cheers!

5:45 No other reviewer ususally compares the action to a real piano. Really good. Somone needs to do the same with the N1XA once it comes out later this year. I would like to know how the action of the N1XA compares to the NU1XA. Im assuming N1XA will bet better, but I never tried it.

Thank you for appreciating my effort! I think the dynamics issue I found on my NU1 (and confirmed by many other users) wasn't the case for the N1, N2 and the bigger models. I remember trying almost all of them at that time and wasn't able to reproduce the problem. But their size was too big for my setup and space, so I had to stick with the upright model.

Compares the action to an 'acoustic' piano, as digital pianos are pianos - real pianos. Piano forte is 'piano' (shortened) - and they didn't have any other means to achieve 'piano' (piano forte) back then. But now, in the modern times, there are other ways to achieve piano forte (piano).

I mean the entire point of an hybrid piano piano is the feel of an upright/baby grand depending on the model.

very professional informative review. Thank you for that! This is probably the one I want. I am waiting to see the new CLP885 and decide which one I take. I know the NU1ax is hybrid and the CLP 885 is digital. I hear somewhere the sound is better on CLP885 however I find most important the feeling to a real acoustic piano and probably the NU1ax will make it the winner for my needs. Let´s see.

Thank you for your nice feedback. I would recommend you to try both models, if you can, even in different stores. You may find nuances that are not easily caught on the first time.

Speaking from experience: when I bought the first model of the Yamaha hybrid NU1 (I made a video of it) I didn't do it and eventually regretted.

Very informative and helpful, thank you. Have you tried high-end models from other brands (e.g. Kawai NV5S, Casio GP-510, or Roland LX-9)? What do you think about the authenticity and playability of those actions compared to the Yamaha's?
@LucianoLombardiMusic6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I think when I had the issue with the first NU1 I could only try a Kawai (can't remember the model now) but there was something that did not meet all my needs. Nothing wrong with the piano itself though.
