Күн бұрын

Recently our Polar PJ Trailer Hybrid Snowmobile Trailer (Polar Sport Enclosed Trailer) had a stuck door - It would not pull open - Either it was Frozen or Jammed Stuck and when we really pulled on it to pop it open, we found one of the cables had detached came off and was laying in the floor.
Here is how we managed to install or fix this broken cable. Hybrid Trailer Ramp Door Repair - BROKEN CABLE or Cable Off Repair

Left a comment a few days ago, but it disappeared. This is a good video, but no need to use the vise grips. Follow instructions in video to the 3 minute mark. Then, instead of using vise grips, just have another person push down on the OPPOSITE side cable(the one attached and working). This will give you the slack you need to fit the bolt in. 5 minutes, 2 people...and you're done.

@@mudbrats it's a helpful video! This is like a $100 repair if you have to take it to a shop. I just did mine a few days ago. Followed your instructions, then took the tip that Greg Poston left earlier about pushing down on the opposite cable to give some slack. Worked perfectly. Other videos trying to tell people to do with the door closed and to loosen bolts on the spring! No thanks, I prefer not to mess with things under pressure.

You’re assuming that everyone is going to have a helper. Or an extra person. If you don’t have a helper it. It IS A NEED for the vise grips.

There is an easier way than what you displayed. If you spool the good cable and leave it about 4 inches short of the eye bolt fastening, then have someone else push down on the opposite cable just a few inches till you have enough slack to fasten the eye bolt, then release the tension and your done. Open and close the ramp and you will find it works and auto tensions each side. Five minutes time my son and I completed the task with the only tools and open end wrench for the eye bolt.

Trying to follow your directions...when you say 'spool the good cable', you mean spool the unattached cable like is shown in the video? So you're basically doing like in the video except instead of using the vise grips, you'd just pull down on the already attached cable and this gives the slack to attach the bolt on the loose cable? Thanks for the tip. These things are always coming off.

Once the cables come off the pulleys, the spring recoils to it's closed position, aka, least amount of tension. I don't understand how the reattached cables spooled onto the pulleys (when closing the ramp). Did you spin the spring axle to the open tension position prior to closing the ramp at the end of the job?
@mudbrats
@mudbrats 6 ай бұрын
The other cable was still intact so creates the tension.

if it is like mine, you should be able to reattach it as shown here. But if you are not sure, i would find a garage door company and have them look at it. Let me know how it goes. Most hardware stores sell cable, crimp ends and connectors so you can easily make new cable as well... with 1 cable my door was way too heavy to lift. I would be afraid of the second one breaking and the spring will unwind and the door will way to heavy to lift.
