@@WaxMode i wonder how well griots would work as a drying aid. Probably not as good as actually applying it on a clean and dry surface and buff.
@WaxMode3 жыл бұрын
@@khyoon14 Right, any time you're applying to a wet surface you run the likelihood of diluting the protection that can stick to the surface during the wiping stage. But I would also prefer to use something like Ceramic Speed Shine for the drying aid step as it will be lighter than Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax, and less likely to leave high spot streaking in case you miss any spots or don't wipe it in as thoroughly. Also the Ceramic Speed Shine should act as a better lubricant to help protect against marring during the drying step.

Thank you for such a straight-forward presentation. Real-world, informative and no blah-blah-blah. It is much appreciated. I recently did 3 older daily drivers and compared Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1, Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic spray (on top of their hybrid ceramic polish and wax) and Griot's Poly Wax. I used them on carefully cleaned and polished clear coats. In terms of appearance and ease of use, Poly Wax is unreal is comes off SO easily. It looks great and sheds dirt like a champ. No basis for durability yet, but this video is surely encouraging. I had to buff both of the spray products a bit to get them glossy---Griot's 3-in-1 being a bit easier to buff clean. Griot's ceramic spray IS insanely hydrophobic! I can "wash" my dusty car with the spot-free rinse at a car wash---everything just comes off clean. My shower doors shed water now, too. These chemists are creating amazing products. Overall...I think that you get a little more for your money with the Griot's products. I've yet to be disappointed in any of them.

Thanks so much Robert! I agree with you, it pains me to run these types of durability tests where I have to refrain from topping and maintaining the paint on a regular basis. I'm one of those guys that wants to use something on the paint for maintenance every single time I wash it. One product you might like is Polish Angel High Gloss. Very expensive for the amount that you get, but this spray sealant along with their Cosmic Spritz are two of my absolute favorites when we take price out of the equation. Great hydrophobics, very good ease of use, they wipe on/off really well for as thick as their formulas are, and they leave an outstanding glow left behind on the paint. I remember trying High Gloss on my neighbor's Ruby Red Mustang a while ago and it just made that paint pop. Slickness is good, not Bead Maker slick but not bad at all. If you're ever wanting to indulge a bit then High Gloss is one product I would recommend, for me it's one of the most satisfying spray protectants that I've worked with and it's a very unique style of formula, much different than more products out on the market and that uniqueness makes it very attractive for me.

I think if, every 3 months, you do a thorough wash car, and apply either TW, Griots, or another name brand ceramic spray coating, and a 2nd coat next day, you’ll protect your clear coat for years. I also apply a synthetic sealant (not organic like carnauba) before a ceramic spray, and there are dozens of sealants, quarterly the clear coat will be even more protected for years.

Awesome video. So far my favorite spray Si02 is Polish Angel Cosmic Spritz... due to the amazing hydrophobics, gloss and ease of use. Does the Griots compare well to the Polish Angel, considering the considerably lower price? As much as I love the PA, I need to find more affordable product. Griot's looks like it may be the winner.
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Polish Angel is still one of my absolute favorites. High Gloss and Cosmic Spritz are perhaps some of the most satisfying spray sealants to work with because of just how well they buff into the paint and how clean of a wipeoff you get with them, despite them being significant sprays with thicker formulas. They will be more hydrophobic than both Hybrid Solutions and Griot's Ceramic, but Griot's may outperform them in longevity without toppers. Griot's is not quite as easy to work with compared to them, it's more prone to streaking. I have not found a direct substitute for High Gloss or Cosmic Spritz. I would actually say the TiO2/SiO2 blend of Mothers CMX Ceramic Spray Coating is probably the closest in the consumer market to the Polish Angel formula, but it's not quite as refined, and doesn't have the same hydrophobic durability. When it's fresh though it will give that awesome Polish Angel style hydrophobics. A cheaper version of Cosmic Spritz and High Gloss is perhaps the unicorn that I'm looking for.

Great showing by Griot's. How is that when applying in the sun?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it for direct sunlight, I've gotten away with it on the test panel but you can run into streaking if you're spraying it on hot paint and trying to work like that across the entire car. Turtle Wax you can run a damp microfiber wipedown and get any unevenness to buff off clean in direct sunlight, but the Griot's when it streaks it can be a bit more difficult to level out. Works great out of the sun, haven't had issues yet.

Hey ChemoDoc, so far the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax has held up the best hydrophobic durability out of all the consumer ceramic sprays that I've tested. So that includes Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax, Turtle Wax Seal N Shine and their Ceramic Spray Coating, and Mothers CMX. The first formula of Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating I was able to get a year of durability of that product on the paint. With The Last Coat V2, I just put this on the rear quarter panel of this test car next to the latest update of Seal N Shine to see how both of those hold up in durability. I just did a massive detail on my 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport and for the LSP I applied 1 coat of TAC System Power Plus Sio2 paint coating and wanna use the Griot's Garage 3 in 1 Ceramic spray wax as a monthly topper. Yeah, I know I dont need it monthly but you know me, LOL. What do you think of this and/or Turtle Wax Ice Seal and Shine as monthly toppers ontop of the coating here🤔 Thx👍👍
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Klasse Act! Let me know how that Power Plus coating holds up for you. As far as coating maintenance, I wouldn't prefer to use either the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax or Seal N Shine in the short term. These two are both on the heavier side of things, and they're not the most hydrophobic, so you should notice them covering up the performance of the coating a bit if it's a very hydrophobic coating, especially with Seal N Shine. Griot's Ceramic Wax didn't want to go on as nicely on top of the Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating section that I had on the paint, so I did notice streaking when trying to buff it off. I'm much more likely to run lighter toppers on the coating, or something in the middle. I'm still very much on the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Detailer bandwagon for maintenance with the coatings. More hydrophobic potential compared to Griot's and Seal N Shine, but light enough to not run interference from what I've seen so far.

With all the spray ceramics on the market, what would be the point in using something that costs $50+ and takes longer to apply??
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Definitely a good question, especially when you're keeping up on wash maintenance and making sure that the protection remains topped up, these products will definitely be able to provide awesome performance until your next polishing session. But with the full blown ceramic coatings, they have a much more significant form of longevity, a much greater hydrophobic performance, a much thicker layer of protection left behind, and as a result likely a much greater resistance to UV bombardment and degradation. If the protection of the paint is my highest priority, I'm always going to reach for the full blown paint coatings to provide that base layer foundation of protection. For me, that additional time and expense to apply a coating like CQUK 3.0 is well worth it for its features, given that I already have the experience and polishing tools needed to perform the prep myself.

great channel. Didn't try other of these, but I was NOT impressed with the ceramic wet wax. Hydrophobicity was gone in a week. Gloss was good but only for a few days.
@WaxMode3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Are you working with Ceramic Wet Wax by itself or are you pairing it up on top of a base protectant? Ceramic Wet Wax is more a refreshment for me, I wouldn't prefer to use it by itself and I think it would be typical to have it diminish by itself more rapidly unless you're using it to top Ceramic Spray Coating on a regular basis. I greatly prefer Wet Wax as opposed to their Ceramic 3-in-1 Detailer. The Hybrid Solutions system you're not going to see the Fusso Coat level beading out of it, but from what I've seen the Ceramic Spray Coating and Ceramic Polish & Wax can hold up in durability so long as you're not expecting crazy hydrophobic monsters. Keep them refreshed with Ceramic Wet Wax and you've got a system that should easily get you until the next decon/polishing session.

Awesome video. How long you wait to apply a second coat of any ceramic spray coatings?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Royal! I waited 4 days before washing the paint with Reset and then applying the second coat on top of their sections in this test. I would recommend to apply the second coat of any ceramic spray coatings after your first wash after giving the products a couple of days to cure on the paint. If you keep the paint inside in the garage and it stays clean, should be fine to apply a second coat after 24 hours.

Megs UQW Vs Megs UQW new formula any plan?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
I love the new Opus sprayer top on the new UQW for sure, just always enjoyed working with that sprayer and it's crazy to see Turtle Wax switch away from the Opus sprayer and then Meguiar's switch into that sprayer. Definitely need to run more testing on the new UQW and UQD formulas. Currently on a gloss escapade on the test panel with Poorboy's Black Hole Glaze. Really surprising results to see Black Hole actually improving the gloss of what the abrasive was leaving behind after washing Black Hole.

Amazing that the griots is so long lasting so far and is this 3 in 1 griots good for topping off a ceramic coating and rejuvenate it?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
I had troubles getting the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax to level out well on top of the older Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating, it left behind some streaking. This Griot's is a significant protectant, so I prefer those lighter toppers that are going to allow the coating to maintain its own properties rather than being covered up with the performance of a heavier product like this Griot's.
@arthurlekov29474 жыл бұрын
WaxMode Thank you Waxmode, it was very well explained. I am still debating on which silica spray I should use to use after my maintenance wash on my ceramic coated vehicle. The ceramic coating that I am using is 3.0 cquarts edition and I am learning as I go on because I am 15 and don’t have that much experience since I started at age 13. And thank you again.
@barrybij80794 жыл бұрын
maybe a dumb question. would you consider griots 3-1 as a drying aid and add to protection during a maintenance eash?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Hey Barry, I would not prefer to use the Griot's as a drying aid, it's a bit heavy for me to fill that role although you could get away with it in some situations without problems. Griot's can be really funky, it can wipeoff cleanly in controlled situations, but you can definitely run into trouble out in the sun or in the heat when working across an entire car on certain paints. For drying aids I like much lighter style of sprays that are easy to wipe clean in less than ideal situations like Wet Wax.

Hey waxmode, I need some advice. I remember Brian from apex detail explaining how he stores gyeon can coat or carpro lite but I can't find the video. Can you give me some advice on how to store them once they've been opened? I remember something about a fridge and that's it.
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Zymol are the only waxes that I actually store in the fridge, the rest I keep indoors at room temperature including the coatings that I've opened up. So far the only coatings that have visually gone bad was the first formula of the Blackfire Crystal Coat, the McKee's 37 SiO2 Enhanced Coating, and the first formula of DPC Shield. Everything else, some of which I opened many years ago like Gyeon Mohs, Prime, One, CanCoat, and Gtechniq CLS, EXOv3, CarPro CQUK 2.0 and 3.0, Lite, they never crystallized in the bottle or gelled up. CanCoat you want to take that sprayer out and reseal the container with the original hard cap, never let the sprayer sit inside and I'd clean the sprayer out after each use. Other than that I might pull some of the older coatings out on the test panel and see if they're still usable. So I'm not sure on the shelf life improvement of refrigeration.

Is griot 3 in 1 user friendly in the sun? If not what the best for apply in the sun. Currently using meguoar express spray wa
@BWBW2474 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend hybrid ceramic wax in direct sunlight. At least not the first coat. With this product (and meguiars hybrid ceramic wax) the first coat is put on, like normal wax, when the car is dry and requires buffing. This in direct sunlight will cause swirl marks and hazing. However, second coats to keep the hydrophobic aspects can be put on when the car is wet and I would say is generally okay in the sun. I think the best product to use in direct sunlight is touchless sealants like CarPro Hydro2. They don’t require the first coat like the hybrid ceramic waxes do, instead you spray on and wash off. It clings on the paint without having to touch it.
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend the Griot's in direct sunlight. You can get away with it in some situations and on some paint, but other times it can bite you and lead to streaking. Anytime I'm working in the sun I want something light, and I want to spray directly into the towel and spread and wipe with a separate dry towel, and never spray directly onto the hot paint itself. I've had good results using a variety of different products like this, including the new Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax and Quik Detailer, Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, Ultimate Fast Finish, Ice Spray Wax, Bead Maker, CG V7, ect. I don't like to use any of the heavier ceramic spray protectants in direct sunlight if I can avoid it.
@cindykeselowski8992 жыл бұрын
So which product do you recommend?
@WaxMode2 жыл бұрын
Both are capable, I think Griot's has the potential for the best durability between the two of them, but I've gotten months and months of good durability out of both. I would lean towards Griot's and pick up their Ceramic Detailer to use for regular maintenance, while applying Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax once every few months.
@halamadrid67332 жыл бұрын
Hard to choose, I've seen so many videos comparing both sprays and on some videos TW is clear winner and on others Griots is clear winner
@WaxMode2 жыл бұрын
Me too, I’ve seen both go the distance in some tests and then others they were hit hard in a few months. Overall, I think the maintenance schedule of topping these up after every few months is still key to keeping their performance up to par. They still aren’t true coatings, but very capable spray sealants. And I prefer this Turtle Wax Spray Coating compared to their latest Graphene Flex Wax or Seal N Shine.

Can I use the TW as a drying aid?
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
Grab the Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Wet Wax as a drying aid. This Ceramic Spray Coating is heavier, you need to manage overspray more effectively and because of that, I don't prefer to use it often as a drying aid. You can get away with doing so, but Wet Wax is a much better option for that.

I don't really know how to feel, nothing against the review but comparisons for these two seem to be so contradictive across the board. For some the Griots does very well for others it does poorly (in terms of longevity). Same with the Turtle Wax there just seems to be a unknown variable which largely effects both. I've been scratching my head over it and I don't understand why. I don't believe anyone is lying nor do I feel anyone has a reason to lie it's just .. these two can be a coin flip as to which will preform a good bit better than the other you don't see this very often with products. It's mostly a yes or no type of answer really just definitely but not the case with these two. I almost wonder if it's the rejoin they live in which is effecting the results, I've also wondered if one just had a bad batch at some point too. For every good 1-2 month review of Turtle Wax there is a bad one same applies to Griots. User application can only play so large of a roll but really it just stumps me as to why so many people have contradictive results.
@WaxMode4 жыл бұрын
There's a ton of variables at play when it comes to product durability, it's impossible to determine which ones have the highest relevancy and significance when it comes to answering why one is getting better results compared to another. This is one of the reasons why I'm running the Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating on the blue test Honda, so that I can cross reference the results between the two different test cars. All cars have a wide variety of different types of paints and clearcoats, you've got some paints that are soft, hard, medium, sticky, etc. Not all clearcoat is of the same chemical composition, and I theorize that even the base composition of the clearcoat itself can have a significance in allowing protectants to bond more effectively to it. Then you have the healthiness of the paint layer that can have significance, and this is actually the biggest determinant in the short term performance of the products that I test. Any clearcoat that is showing oxidation or hasn't been polished in a while will never be able to allow proper bonding of the protectants on top to their highest levels. Related to paint healthiness, if I take two of the same exact cars that were painted one right after another at the factory with the same exact paint, and yet one of the owners garaged kept their car and maintained it properly, while the other owner allowed it to sit in the Florida sun unprotected, or had negligent detailers buff off 75% of the clearcoat overtime and remove that built in UV protection in that paint layer, and then I go and prep those cars the same exact way and apply the same protectants on top and allow them to go through the same durability test outside 24/7, I theorize we would see a drastic difference in the durability of the protectants. Then you have the different levels of prepwork that users are performing, the different environments and driving conditions and exposure to elements that cars are put through, different soaps and concentrations used for wash maintenance, how often maintenance is performed, all of these could have some input into the end results for the actual durability of the protectants. The best that I can do is prepped the paint that I have access to in the best way that I can, and just showcase the results so that we can add one more statistic to the list of different experiences. But I think the take away from these tests, is with reasonable amount of prepwork you should be expecting months of durability with these spray protectants. If you're washing paint regularly and maintaining often, you've got to go with the product that gives you the properties that you want to see in the short term, or one that is easier for you to work with compared to the other.

If it's so easy to use, I'd top Griots with Griots every other wash.
@WaxMode3 жыл бұрын
That will definitely get the job done. I like to use something after every wash so the lighter spray toppers fill that role, and then reapply the heavier spray protectants every once in a while would be my option. I need to get my hands on their latest Ceramic Speed Shine to see how well it does after every wash. Just be careful on hotter paint or in direct sunlight with Ceramic 3-in-1, I’ve seen some guys have slight high spot marks where the product cured unevenly.
