Great video! So I’ve never used a vacuum style system before. So what happens if your vacuum pump or diaphragm pump runs out of sap do they shut off automatically or is there something that shut them off so they don’t burn out? ?

These pumps can safely run dry. They can even keep running while the lines freeze up and it does not hurt the pump. Some guys put temperature switches on to turn the pump off to save battery power while the lines are frozen.

I just use cheap Chinese 12 VDC diaphragm pumps that you can find on Ebay for under $20. If you want something quieter and all around better, the Shurflo pumps are very popular for sap. They take bigger batteries.

Can you just bury your lines to get them out of the way?

No. They freeze overnight and they would take much longer to thaw if they were buried. Plus, you would be cutting through a lot of tree roots if you buried them.
