Thank you for tour video, I have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Blue that I bought specifically for Uber and other delivery jobs I do. I’ve had the car for 2 months now and it is dead. I put 10,000 miles on the car since I’ve had it so now it is at 68,000 miles. The warranty ran out at 60,000 miles. Replacing the integrated 12v lithium battery seems like a very expensive fix. I am so disappointed in this, and now instead of having a small income from delivery…I have a monthly payment for something I cannot use. Thank you for the video though, it helped me realize what the problem with the car is and how much I was screwed on this car.

I watched your video. Everything is described very clearly and in detail. the best videos on the Internet. On a Kia Niro hybrid 2017 I replaced a completely assembled high-voltage battery, a lithium-ion 12 battery, a power relay assembly with another one that was the same only with less mileage. As a result, the car does not start. Writes error P1B77, but the fuse is intact and 240 volts goes to the power relay assembly, but the power relays do not send current to the inverter. The relay clicks and turns off. I put everything original back in place. The power relays no longer click, the instrument culster does not show anything, only the driver's seat starts to move. When you press the reset button on the 12 Volt battery, there is complete silence.

my 2022 Tucson Hybrid has the integrated 12v/Hybrid Li-battery and it's great because the entire thing is covered by the Hybrid Warranty (10y/150K in CA, OR, and 11 more 'Section 177' states, other states it's covered for 10y/100K). In 3 years my Tucson has never tripped the "12v reset" system, even after sitting 2 weeks several times.

Very interesting. I was thinking about putting a 2000w inverter on the 12 volt system on my 2023 Kia Niro. I am thinking twice about that now.... Seems that they don't have proper tempeture mangement on the 12 volt system. Maybe they did not think people would blast thier radio at parties for hours, I don't know. But that 12 volt battery should not be swelling, that is an overcharge state that needs to be addressed, yesterday.

Very interesting about the concern for high heat on the batteries. And it is also interesting that the 2 batteries are under the rear seat. In the summer, the car can heat soak to above 120 degrees F. How does that impact these batteries, and is there anything that needs to happen to protect them?

Gel Lithium-ion batteries swell from constant overcharging when they are constantly at 100% charge. If the battery was always charged to 97-99% and no more, then it would never swell. It turns out that the charging control unit is not perfect, and requires improvement.

Great video. I have a new Kona Hybrid 2023 that has the same battery, gearbox and 1.6 engine as the Kia Niro. Why do Kia and Hyundai not make it easier to access the actual high voltage battery for when it needs changing, say at 8 years, that is, under the seat as is, BUT, under say 10 screws, 2 big electrical plugs, then lift the battery out and swap it. There are so many connectors, and covers, and plates with many screws. You are great at what you do, but many delaers with young staff I can see losing a screw etc. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and I could design a simpler swapping system for the battery. Both low and high voltage. Note- this set up on the niro is much better than the old nissan Leaf cars, as you can do it all via the back seat and not the boot, but there are still way too many steps to change the battery. Anyway you have a new subscriber. well done on your videos.

Hello. Maybe you can help. I bought a 2018 Kia Niro Hybrid at an auction. When the car arrived to me, it wouldn't start. The starter trying turning, the gas was supplied, the ignition coils were working. I looked at the 12V battery - it was very swollen. Now I've ordered a new one - I'm waiting for it to arrive. Could it be the reason? It doesn't hold voltage at all - the tester shows 1-2 volts. I checked all the fuses - they're all ok. I tried to jump start the car - it didn't work. I just can't figure out what the problem could be, since the engine is trying to start, it turns for a couple of seconds, but it doesn't start. OBD does not show any errors, although when I try to start it, it says "check the hybrid system"

My ioniq died recently and the dealership replaced the 12v battery, battery management system, power relay assembly, and some other random electronics. Cost about $3500. Basically all of the electrical components are worn out except for the Hybrid battery itself, which is still doing pretty well. It sucks because I have a lifetime warranty as an original owner. I was hoping they could replace the battery also.

Hi your videos are fantastic. I’m from the UK I have a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid I have a problem which no one can diagnose. The car starts and goes in to gear but as soon as I press the accelerator to move forwards it goes a little bit and then shuts down . If I have the car on standstill can press the accelerator and the petrol engine kicks in and I. A rev it but as soon as I select drive and try to move it just shuts down . There are no faults in diagnostics , is there anything you can suggest please thanks

Have you seen the HEV alert that says there is a problem with HEV system and to shut off the engine? If so, then I have the very same problem, and maybe is the same issue as seen on the video, I need to see Hyundai repair shop diagnostics and it will cost one of my kidneys to know what is the cause of the issue. I cannot longer start the engine or even reset 12v battery with cabin button. Such a shame of a car.

Yes, you just need to pull the carpet liner back, the panel has 3 plastic Phillips "trim" screws. 2 rear cushion bolts are 12mm, fuse bolts are 10mm.

Really, these are really problematic cars, I wanted to sell mine before getting any issues, however it has given me quite some headaches in 1 year owning period. Never buy any Kia/Hyundai Hybrid. I had a 2018 Kia Rio and never had any issue.

Are you replacing the standard 200W inverter? MY2020 here, it came as standard equipment in the L Business Line trim. If You don't have it at all, I'd advise buying the original one, 1kW seems a bit much (x5).

Lithium batteries are far more expensive than lead acid, especially at that time. They only need it to last 3-5 years depending on the body warranty period. 5-8 Years is the typical lifespan of a lead acid battery which should be sufficient.

@@Fil0sOFF Yes, but 99% of consumers will not see a tangible benefit while purchasing a car. They can't see or feel the benefits. That's unfortunately how most people buy cars. So it doesn't make sense for car manufacturers to put in the extra cost, which is 2-3x higher for a part that will operate fine within the standard warranty period. It won't touch their pocket unless there are massive numbers of failures in less than 5 years. That's how car manufacturers look at it and why you don't see them often. EV's are different they'll turn off the 12v charge system when the traction battery pack is less than 15% SOC. By design, they need a lithium battery to operate the computers, lights and electronics for the time period a traction battery is under 15% SOC.
