You can also leave the leaves on, but you should cut the flowers when they’re already getting dry on the bush. It usually works for me!
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
I take the leaves off so they don’t take away anything from the flower heads. You can totally wait until the flower heads are starting to dry on the plant already. But if you don’t want that brownish color on your flowers you’ll want to cut them a bit sooner

WTH...if you want them to dry, why do you put them in water?
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
This is to keep the bloom heads nice and plump looking, hydrangeas love water. If you keep the stems in water until the blooms are dry..it looks like you took them fresh off the plant. If you bring the flowers inside and hang them upside down to dry, you risk having them look shriveled.
@angeluni2 ай бұрын
Dont they turn brown?
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
They do eventually turn a bit brownish
@Katzenlaufwunder2 ай бұрын
how can they dry, when they stand in water?
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
All flowers will eventually fade or dry even in water. Hydrangeas love water so by placing the stems in water until the flowers are dry, it helps the flower heads stay plump after they’re dried. If you just hang them upside down to dry, you risk the flower heads becoming shriveled looking

Cant hydrangeas be pretty posionous when dry?
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
Yes..Dried hydrangeas can be poisonous, but the risk is low. The drying and preserving process for hydrangeas can reduce the risk of toxicity. Mild poisoning from hydrangeas is common and can cause stomach upset. Most toxicity symptoms are mild and easy to correct.
@willzander65142 ай бұрын
Why put them in water to dry the flowers? If you want to.preserve the flowers, i stead of water, place them in 1 part glyceri e and 2 parts warm water.
@rosalindyoder2 ай бұрын
