Hydraulic circuit symbol explanation

We guide you through a simple hydraulic circuit by explaining the basic symbols, drawn to ISO 1219.
We also demonstrate different levels of detail shown in 2 symbols for the same valve and discuss some of the issues with equipment circuit drawings.

The arrow through an orifice does not specify the direction of flow. Just that it is adjustable. An orifice is just a hole so the flow can travel in both directions.

Shouldn't a check valve symbol let flow through the arrow and work like a diode symbol not the opposite way?

I know this is a REALLY old comment, but just in case anyone else wonders. That isn't really an arrow with a ball before. It's more like two separate lines meeting (----------< meets o-------). if you flow from behind the ball towards the mouth, the ball gets pushed against it, blocking flow (-----

We use Corel draw just because it looks better in the videos but I would not recommend this for normal circuit design drawings.

Different industries or countries often have different names for valves or circuits. Certainly at Parker and Rexroth we called these open center valves. But use tandem if that's what everyone in your industry understands.
