I have never seen any kind of pins in a ram, but all of the ones I've ever seen had nylock nuts, so that's probably why.

Pins in a hydraulic cylinder is a fairly new thing to me, but any cylinder I have helped strip/rebuild have been from 90s or older usually older

Did you remove the grub bolt on the ram pin that's likely 4 2 top and bottom of the ram?

No only grub/dowl was on the piston
