Was that a cast steel billet? Is there a reason to use cast steel as a nut.

It looked like the turning were coming off like cast iron ( feathery ). 🤔. I think different metals for a nut and bolt are used to stop binding when in use. 😊.

@ Yes it looked like cast iron chips to me. 🙂. Thing is though when the foundrys there cast the metal ingots they can sometimes throw all sorts into the mix. 😀. I turned a lot of cast iron and it looks like those turnings. 🙂.
