Thanks! This was very helpful and I tried the first time today. Obviously a learning process. I had a lot of paint stuck to the sides on the top after I finished. How do I clean that or avoid that all together?
@EmilyMineDesigns Жыл бұрын
Before pulling your cup out of the water make sure you break the paint away from the surface. That is very important otherwise you essentially re dip your cup when pulling it out of the water and that's when you will see clumps of paint and it won't look right. I hope that makes sense. Water temperature is so important as well. Like you said, it's a learning process and the more you do it the more you will get the feel for the best water temperature. Unfortunately I wouldn't try to clean that up, I would just take acetone and clean the entire cup and try again. The good thing about this technique is that you don't use that much paint especially when using the marabou inks, so it's not too heart shattering when you dont get it right 😜

❤️❤️❤️your video and I refer back to it a lot. I had some questions about other possible sealers. Could you use triple thick or liquitex gloss varnishes?? Confused by the oil vs water based. On the liquitex, one answer to a question said you can't use it on oil and it's only meant for acrylic paints.

So sorry about the delay in my response! You can certainly use Mod Podge to seal it! Or even a clear spray paint. Polycrylic works too! 😊

What type of tumbler? Will stainless steel work or do I gotta paint
@EmilyMineDesigns3 жыл бұрын
I only use stainless steel tumblers. You don’t have to paint it before dipping if that’s the look you’re going for. I always base paint mine because personally I don’t like the look of the stainless showing through. If you aren’t going to paint it I do recommend that you still sand it very well as wash it off before dipping 🙂

Hi, do you need to seal again after the decals or can you go straight to epoxy after the decals? Great video btw
@EmilyMineDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I only ever seal my decals if I am using a specialty vinyl such as holographic or glitter vinyl because they have a tendency to lift under epoxy. Other than that I do not seal. But you can seal any decal just to be safe!

What do you mean by “fish eyes”? Is this something unique to tumblers? Thanks for the video.
@EmilyMineDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jennifer! Fish eyes are basically just spots that the epoxy repels from on your tumbler. Sometimes you will see the epoxy pulling away from certain areas while applying the epoxy and other times you won’t see them until you go to take your tumbler off the turner after curing. They look like little craters on your cup and depending on the size they can be troublesome to fill in. They are caused by oils on your cup from your hands or from the epoxy not reacting well with whatever is on your cup, such as using the Marabu inks because they are oil based. I hope this helps you! Thanks for watching!

Why do you have to use epoxy?
@EmilyMineDesigns3 жыл бұрын
The epoxy seals your design in and ensures that your tumbler will last for years to come. There is an epoxy alternative that I am looking into trying, it's called Crystalac. I don't have much information on it yet though. Karen Basket has a KZbin channel with a lot of information on the product if you are interested!
