Hydrogen can be generated in production processes as a result of manufacturing. Hydrogen embrittlement is a complex system property that is composed of the material, the phase boundaries, the hydrogen supply and the mechanical load. In 180 seconds, the complex property of hydrogen embrittlement is reduced to an energy-based material characteristic value by means of C-ring stress testing (e.g. DIN 50969-2, EN ISO 7539-5). Test times can be reduced from 24h to less than three minutes. This enables in situ process monitoring of production-related hydrogen embrittlement.
