Energy tank builds need to take care of different things at a time: 1) damage reduction from armor. There's a sweet spot of armor between gains and investment that is hard to find, but I'd say that Hydroid has enough armor through his 3 and he doesn't need any more armor investment outside of strength. Using more resources on armor like with Arcane Guardian just leads to diminishing returns. Shields don't benefit from armor but they have innate 50% damage reduction which can work. 2) damage reduction through other sources. Adaptation is the first that comes in mind, but it's hardly enough. That's because different types of damage reduction act on already diminished damage which makes them more effective and not prone to diminishing returns. Eclipse is a 75% DR ability from the Helminth. 3) the reason why you actually want to Energy tank: an higher Health pool. More energy gives you more HP with Quick Thinking. All those things combined require way too much investment in terms of mods. So many slots for being able to have an higher hp pool and reduce damage significantly.. and you still need to provide actually relevant Energy and health regeneration that can outheal the damage you're taking! There are tools to both regenerate Energy and Health together like with Equilibrium, but you still need a reliable way to do both or either. And you can't run both Eclipse and Nourish unless you're either Mirage or Grendel for example. Meanwhile, a simple shield tank/shieldgate build can consist of just Arcane Aegis, 2 Shield Regeneration mods (Shield Deflection and the Augur mod for Warframes) with well suited frames. Possibly with a good shield amount that can Grant you and higher shieldgate and/or some way to get i-frames so you can have breathing room for your shields. All of this just requires an Arcane and any combination of mods and Archon shards that increase your Shield pool, gives you i-frames or some other kind of shenanigan with Shield regeneration like Fortitude, Vazarin, tome mods. This, in combination with other shield regeneration methods like any augur mod and/or brief respite, can take care of survivability. And that's if you don't like Classic shieldgate builds with full augur set/brief respite+low efficiency and/or Catalyzing Shields

I've been using hydroid for quite some time for time based defence missions like mobile defence, mirror defence, void Armageddon and void cascade. To be complete in control during steel path missions Banshees Silence is a very nice helminth option to block almost all enemy abilities, including accolytes.

I got a ivara helmith for farming on my hydroid and a spam 1 with nourish to refresh my tiny shields and the ocucor, No tentacles tho, i like the 2 for mobility like in the new big tile sets

It's a rare and expensive mod only for grimoires. When you use its secondary fire you get regen

Yea its a grimoire specific mod called xata invocation, gives double the amount of energy per second regen than something like zenurik, and if you combine that with its decent priming capabilities its really good :) you get it from the murmur mirror defense missions

Can’t you get more energy from arcane battery than primed flow? Considering the armor gained from Plunder. Opening up the slot that primed flow occupied for another mod?

I mostly agree with the energy tanking. I love it on Chroma, survivability goes through the roof for my playstyle. But Hydroid? Wasted

Ohh boy, now imagine if you actually understood how to use him 😅 Spoiler alert: it's the tidal surge. At 40-50 m/s everything is clunky: it's "volt effect" all over again. If you know how to mod him and use tidal, he's immortal.

@@morning8590 You're right that it's a playstyle that is not for everyone. But he's 2 is magic with good shield regeneration. And I'm obviously only talking about high end content and level cap cascade. In normal steel path your build maybe is even more comfortable. So keep it up!🤟
