For Home Gardening or Hobby purposes, there is absolutely no need of a greenhouse. I don't have a greenhouse and do hydroponics in open through August till April. Hotter months like May to July, I do all the growing in cocopeat in grow bags. Once temperatures settle down a bit in late August, I start using NFT, DWC, etc. You can always grow hydroponically throughout the year in Grow bags but for water based systems, you need to keep reservoir temperatures appropriate. You may use shade net for the same purpose

Wick is used here to keep media moist especially for those greens where seeds are sown directly. As long as wick is in touch with growing media it will keep it moist but cocopeat works best with this method because its wettability properties are exceptionally great. Other media may not do as well as cocopeat depending upon their abilities to draw moisture and retain it. But you can always try it yourself

It depends. If you want to give your plants optimum conditions to grow then pump should be running 24*7 otherwise 40 mins ON and 20 mins OFF can be done if yours is DFT system

@@smgardener iam planning to set initially to 18 min on and 42 min off upto before flowering stage and slowly increase to 30:30, will this work?mine is DFT. I have just prepared the system seeing your videos regularly, thanks for your replies at all times

Anything can work until something stops working. Watering schedule that you are suggesting can of course work but other factors also come into play like local weather (temperatures as in highs), percentage of roots exposed to air, quantity of water in dft pipe when the pump is turned off, etc. So, if all these factors favor growing conditions then yes do it by all means. Otherwise, 24*7 is something that never disappoints you

Yes you can use 2 inch net cup. For leafy greens you can use reducer but water level will fall instantly whenever circulation stops

First of all, don't use PVC pipes, rather use UPVC (identify with white color) pipes. Normal PVC pipes due to regular water flow, release lead and other hazardous chemicals that are consumed by plants, and finally by human body.

You can use 2 inch net cups in 3 inch pvc pipe but it will depend a lot on what you wish to grow. If you are going to grow only greens then it should work. Otherwise, 4 inch pvc pipe is best.
