After we purchased the Hyrdrow, I watched your review. Thanks for affirming our decision to get the Hydrow. It's the best rower out there, and the $38/month subscription is worth it....you get many instructors and coaches who motivate you to do your best during the exercise session, and there's no beating a 22 inch hi-def screen with gorgeous places to row like the Charles river , the intracoastal waterway in Florida or Wisconsin lakes. The programs are constantly updated and you can "see" other rowers stats on the screen as you row. I would say this is the Tesla of rowers.

@@davileett1224 me neither…. A no brainer to go for the C2 for me. 2 years subscription is as much as a new rower. As well, I don’t like all the electronics, they will fail earlier than the c2 rower for sure. Besides the sound the c2 makes is not annoying, and no issue for me

@@davileett1224 If you have the income to support that subscription, after that question -- it's then about priorities and wants. I personally am inspired a lot more to work out with a huge beautiful screen and good instructors. Just exercising for exercising isn't something I love. I've run 14 half marathons and 2 fulls (all after age 50, when I just started running) but don't love runnong for running's sake. I love music and am inspired to go out for a run by the music I listen to while running. I also hate loud noise (that isn't music). Hate it. So the hydrow, if my budget allows, seems perfect for me.

I purchased the Concept2 as shown here about one year ago because I new the machine from fitness. The main advantage of this machine is that it is simple, rugged and doesn’t use any electronics to create rowing resistance. There’s little that can break down on this machine. Spare parts are easily available around the world. For me the noise isn’t a problem, i like it. Furthermore the concept2 operates very smooth at any setting which is important especially when you’re new to rowing. The concept2 is a no nonsense machine that will last for years.

Of course If you live in an over priced townhome with paper thin walls well sure get the hydrow. Concept 2's Model D is by far the most popular rowing machine amongst rowers worldwide. The machines are very well built and last. The high school team I coach still has several Model B rowers in use that are 30+ rears old. Becoming more and more popular in the world of rowing are "dynamic" rowing machines. Dynamic ergs much more closely replicate the feel of rowing in an actual racing shell, work the legs harder, and are kinder to the back. After 35 years of using Concept 2's A, B, C, & D rowers, I have switched to an Oartech DX and will not go back. Rowperfect and Concept 2 also make dynamic rowers.

One correction on the Hydrow, it's weight capacity is 375 lbs, not 300 lbs. I purchased this machine a few months ago with no rowing experience. It's been a great machine, is very quiet (I use it in my den that is between two bedrooms in the early AM and it doesn't disturb anyone in the house still sleeping). The instructors and motivating and inspirational, which is especially helpful on those early mornings when it's tough to get out of bed and get motivated for a workout. I haven't used the others so I can't compare them, but I've been extremely happy with the Hydrow.

Good review. So, let me just mention that I’m a big fan of NT. I think the S22i in my opinion is the best realistic feel cycling bike at this time, it makes the Peloton feel like a standard bike for its price range. Anyway, I’ve used all these machines mentioned above. Hydrow is the best right now, in my opinion. It feels solid, smooth and realistic feel to it like you’re actually rowing. Not to mention it has an option to choose JOURNEYS in your screen without trainer, feeling like you’re actually rowing at different places. It’s never boring and extremely motivating. I would buy Hydrow for $3,000.00 lol. It’s that good and not to mention getting a full body workout. Now, if you don’t care for technology and other bells and whistles, just get the concept2 , just row. Hydrow also has an option to just Row if you don’t want subscription. Thank you for the review, I’m glad I got the Hydrow.

@ixibladeixi2639

@@robertm1692 Negative Sir. You probably misinformed. You won’t have the live workout/music videos, racing challenges, ability to compete to other users, etc.... to some people the videos and different levels of workout they get from a subscription motivate them more or the only way for them to actually move and use the machine, the “fun factor”. Without subscription, you can still have a full screen that shows you the adjustments resistance, drag , metrics while working out and a tutorial video. So, basically, without subscription you have a big screen digital information just like Concept 2 with a tiny screen display. My question is, why would someone buy a $2000.00+ Rowing machine and not able to spend subscription to it and just wants to row? In my humble opinion, just get the Concept2 if none of the technology matters as much. It’s like buying a $90,000.00 high performance truck with 700 hp and complaining about the price of gas lol.

@@ixibladeixi2639 I was thinking more along the lines about wether I could use the monitor to connect to the internet via wifi. Then I could take advantage of some of the hundreds of free rowing videos that are online.
@ixibladeixi2639
@ixibladeixi2639 3 жыл бұрын
@@robertm1692 I see what you’re saying, but it defeats the purpose of the machine affiliations to the company and the trainers that are designed with it. Trainers and staff members from specific rowing machine videos have to get paid. For instance, I have the S22i Bike from Nordictrack. The app ifit is awesome and it’s designed to their S22i so that the bike adjusts on it’s own controlled by the trainer you’re trying to follow while working out. You can download the app on your phone and on television but you gonna have to adjust the resistance and incline/decline option on your own. Then it becomes a standard bike. Again, why buy something that the features they designed won’t be used. Like I said, with concept 2, you can take advantage of what you just mentioned and just row. With the Hydrow, not only that you can take advantage on hundreds of free videos online using your 75 inch TV, while choosing “Just Row” option and still able to use their own system designed if you want to switch. If you can hack the system, I’m sure you can do anything you want. I’ve seen people downloaded Peloton app in their NordicTrack. Everything is possible, but at this time, if you’re looking to get the Hydrow, you can’t use the monitor to connect to the internet.

I liked your review, I wouldn't have minded to see some options from Nordictrack that would have been more of a middle ground on price and performance, such as the RW600 or RW700 as they would have been a bit of a step up from the C2, without going all out on the Hydrow and offering an equivalent experience. I much prefer the Nordictrack as you can combine the yearly fee (which is only $250) across treadmills, bikes, and rowers. You won't find that with many other companies (Peloton is getting there, but their treadmill was a disaster for some folks both in deliveries and safety).

So getting it upstairs or moving around is a for a strong person(s). Also, how each rower comes and how much of an install out of the box (or delivery option) is necessary, is important...the Nordic Track requires a good deal of installation.

being in the spirit of the concept 2 does not mean it will perform like a concept 2, the advantage of air is you cant out muscle the resistance, pull harder and it gets harder, with magnetism there is a point where if you pull hard enough you can often break the magnetic force... this has never been a point of discussion with the hydro though and ive never used it so it seems whatever it does it does it well and probably solved that problem.

Most people will not be able to "out row" the NT500. It has an air resistance flywheel like the C2 so it will generate power commiserate with the power of your stroke. However, the flywheel is slightly smaller on the NT500 (compared to the C2), so those who are very strong and/or have a powerful stroke may be able to pull past the point of resistance. However, the magnetic resistance will counteract this since it has magnetic resistance built in as well.

I'm looking to purchase and need some advice. I am a large man (picture defensive end/lineman), I am willing to spend for a quality machine. Noise and space aren't deal breakers but quieter the better. I see proprietary memberships as extortion, I purchased the machine allow me to use it how I wish, and do not limit function to reach into my wallet. 1st choice (by far would have been) the larger Hydrow but the deal breaker is not being able to hook ANYTHING to that screen. The screen is utterly useless if I don't have the membership. The membership feels like product extortion. So to hell with Hydrow. Is there another rower like the Hydrow with a nice screen but without the extortion? The ironic part is I probably would've purchased the membership anyhow but they chose to limit my choice. 2nd Choice NordicTrack. I could easily buy a larger notebook or tablet (If it would fit) to go with it so I can watch what I choose. But the weight limit is 250 pounds. If it wasn't for the weight limit I would've purchased it already. 3rd Choice Concept 2 Reliability, Durability, tried-and-true. Can easily handle my big body. Does the screen arm move completely out of the way or can I amount a tablet or something to it?

Why use the bottom line nordic to compare with the hydrow? WHy not compare with the RW900?
@TreadmillReviewGuru
@TreadmillReviewGuru 3 жыл бұрын
At the time we made the video, the RW500 was the most popular rower in Nordictrack's lineup, so we compared that one. Nordictrack doesn't offer the RW500 anymore, but currently has both the RW600 and RW700 which are a step up from the RW500 and also sell well bc of the reasonable price point.

If your glutes aren't hurting or you aren't getting tired then you either aren't using it correctly or it's not doing what it's supposed to. So either you aren't working hard enough or using the correct technique or the machine isn't allowing you to whether that be due to lack of resistance or ergonomics.

I feel like the review of the noise of the Concept2 is a bit exaggerated. If you have a gym in your garage, it’s not a problem at all for your family inside the house. It’s not so loud you can’t have a conversation (although you’ll likely be out of breath). The only place I’d say it might be too loud would be in an apartment sharing common walls but honestly I think the vibration of any of these would piss off your neighbors before any of the noise. Also, the room flooring makes a big difference with any of these: bare concrete vs carpet or rubber mats.

@@IReapZz95 It's not loud at all. I use mine on carpet so maybe that's why mine is so quite. I keep mine in the great room behind the sectional. Concept 2 is no louder than a vacuum cleaner. In today's world there's a wealth of information and online videos that can teach/motivate you so I don't know why the Concept 2 was recommended for people who already know how to row or why anyone would bother spending twice as much on another rower just because it has a screen when you have a cell phone or TV. Save your money and just get a Concept 2 and watch KZbin videos if you need motivation or to learn... A subscription that's as much or more than a typical gym membership is just unnecessary.

My Concept2 is very quiet, I use it in the same room while my husband watches TV. It's only 5 dB more than the other rowers. Negligible. Olympic athletes train on the Concept2 as do all the colleges and universities. I put a cell phone in the brackets above the PM5 and follow along with Dark Horse Rowing on YT. You can get an adapter that will hold a tablet. Height matters, if your quite tall the Concept2 will accommodate you, if you're short, like me 5-1 then you'll be fine too. My son was a rower (he still rows, actually) and the coaches let the moms use the rowers when the boys were out on the water. I didn't realize you could actually buy one for your own home. I have one now and I'm very happy. 😊

The RW900 is a great rower with a nice attached screen. The content is similar. Hydrow instructors are a bit more rowing-specific and we enjoy their routes a bit more. But the RW900 is great - especially if you already have a Nordictrack machine. You'll only need one subscription.

The Concept 2 is a fantastic rower. This video is designed to provide a comparative review of three different types of rowers: the fully tech enabled Hydrow, hybrid magnetic/air resistance RW500, or standard air-resistance C2 rower. The review is helpful to those who are considering a rower and would like to see the different options. Hopefully this helps you understand the principle of a comparative review.
