Is there any difference between Hydroxyl and hydroxide... Plz ans...🙏🙏🙏
@divyanshsinghtariyal94855 жыл бұрын
Someone plz tell me how tp differentitate between hydoxyl functional group and alcohol functional group.
@DrDExplainsStuff5 жыл бұрын
Hi Divyansh, a hydroxyl group consists of -OH connected to some molecule. An alcohol is simply any molecule that possesses at least one hydroxyl group. So, by definition, anything - any molecule - with a hydroxyl group is considered an alcohol. Hope this helps!

@صدامحسين-ب6و3ح3 жыл бұрын
Amazing. Thank you! What's the difference between hydroxyl, hydroxide, and hydroxy?
@صدامحسين-ب6و3ح3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure yet, but from what I heard I think: hydroxide is the independent union of one hydrogen and one oxygen atom. when hydroxide (either or both atoms) is bonded to another molecule, any thing other than itself, those two atoms, that particular region of the compound, the formerly independent hydroxide, is now called hydroxyl, or the hydroxyl group of the compound. The compound as a whole is called hydroxy, any compound which has a hydroxyl group bonded to it is called a hydroxy compound. Please make sure to share any information on this.

How about NaCl?
@DrDExplainsStuff5 жыл бұрын
Hydroxyl groups help molecules dissolve in water by giving those molecules a partial charge. Water can only mix with molecules that have charges. :) this is the same reason NaCl mixes with water, the Na+ and Cl- are charged. I hope this helps!
