The hunting strategy of hyenas is incredible and really smart. These two hyenas could have played these game the whole day especially because of their high amount of stamina. That's why they are even capable to take down big cape buffalos with the right numbers.

At the end the mother and the calf ran to the forest where we couldn't follow them followed by teh 4 hyenas. Then we saw some rangers and i told them what we saw and later on the ranger in charge of the protection of rhions came to me and wanted to see the images. He sent a team to try to protect the calf. Days after he sent me the notice that the calf was alive and safe. ;-) happy end then!

2 Hyenas are more efficient on a rhino than a bunch of lions or wild dogs.... just compare the other videos. Hyenas have the best technic to attack their prey. They just bite the rhino leg to separate her for her baby

Smart strategy by hyenas. Powerful and heavy prey but less durability. Their target is the baby. Hyenas stamina is incredible, they can fight for 3 days constantly. Lucky there were only 2 hyenas, if it was a pack/ clan, then rip baby rhino.

Mother would never let them eat the calf, even if they somehow managed to kill it. Rhinos are far more agressive and stubborn.

Hyenas when it comes stamina and ability to keep running all day, no animal is as tough as hyena. If rangers do not stop those hyenas that baby Rhino is dead. The mother Rhino as well could be in danger they will tire her and she will collapse exhausted and lack of energy. Hyenas will have reinforcement all day and night. They chase their prey as as long it collapses in exhaustion and they eat it while chasing, their bite is bone crushing. they are the most vicious hunters but people think they are only scavengers.

At the beginning there were 2 hyenas, after a while there were 4 and there were more hyenas in the area so yes it''s a big danger because the mother rhino and the calf were isolated from other rhinos. Hyenas caqnnot attack baby rhino in a group of rhino but the mother isolated herself from the group in order to prtotect the calf from other rhino so she took another risk... but this time they survived both... ;-)

elva06KHJ pues el bebe no podria defenderse sin su madre. Y aun asi corre mucho peligro. Con 4 hienas alrededor era el limite. Tuvo suerte y se salvo esta vez. Pero no es siempre asi. Los rangers me dijeron que paso lo mismo hace tiempo y las hienas mataron al bebe. :-(

If you can call them brave than you can call them other things too, like cruel. I've seen them eat animals alive. One antelope was stuck in mud, couldn't move, and the hyenas ate it alive. It died a slow, painful death. Hyenas are little shits and I love watching get mauled and annihilated by lions.

MsUltraBob wolves: hunters, bears: hunters/scavenger, killer whales: hunters, ants: totally irrelevant as they're insects, and yes they're annoying and can cause serious damage to personal property. Good reasons to hate ants, not sure why you mentioned them. Hyenas: opportunistic scavengers. They will take bites out of animals and run with a mouthful of their flesh while that animal bleeds to death. Bears don't do this, wolves don't and neither do lions. All of the animals you listed try and kill their prey before they feed, if they can't then sure, they'll eat it alive. But my point is, they kill their prey, when they can. Hyenas will tear something to shreds and will not go out of their way to make sure their prey is dead before they feed. Hell, even male lions when they manage to take out hyenas do so in the same way they kill everything else: crushing their wind pipe until they're dead.

SecretSickle89 you are wrong hyenas are no scavengers, in the past many people believed that but today we know hyenas are predators which hunt over 70% of the prey for themselves. And they are really successful hunters their successrate is 80%. That makes them far better hunters as lions which catch just every second of their prey and scavenge more from hyenas as the other way round. And wild dogs, wolves and grizzlies start eating their preys alive same as hyenas. It just looks much more brutal by hyenas because of their powerful jaws they are able to take a big pieces of flesh out of their prey even if it is still alive and fighting.

Rhinos are so helpless. God blessed them with the strong muscular body but that's precisely what becomes their curse as well restricting their motion and speed. Just be at their back always and they can't do anything. They don't even have the backwards kick of a donkey

Rhinos are not helpless, they're actually quite fast and agile for their size. Did you not see an almost 3 ton animal spin around like nothing? They have thick skin, powerful muscles. Their enormous size alone is good defense, and their large heads with that powerful horn is enough to kill animal terrestrial animal. The rhinos biggest weakness is intelligence.

Nome Cognome that's wrong. Hyenas are strong and can kill every animal when they are in group well organized. The rangers there were very worried when they saw the images. They told me that it happened before and the hyenas killed the rhino. They just harrass until the animal gets too tired. They kill buffalos like that. And what i saw in that particular situation is that they didn't try to attack the calf. They attacked the mother. And how? Trying to bite the soft parts of the mother : under the belly, the genitals and the soft parts of the legs.... But yes the calf was very brave and seemed to be able tobdefend himself. But whithout the mother he would beveaten immediatly by the so powerful jaws of the hyenas
