think about adding a full size roll of tp in your bug out bag. vacume seal it with 2 zip locks 1 qt and 1 gallon in case you need to share some and after you break the vac seal. the small amount you have might work for you but not with a wife and kid in tow. also think about putting Zip locks on the creams and hand san or bug spray. 22 year military time living out of a ruck helped me learn that things break a squish in a ruck with picking up and putting down leaning on ETC. @mrmonkeyman50 Thanks for the comment! I'll add all of the items you mentioned tomorrow. I can't believe I forgot toothpicks. I use them daily. Regarding hygiene items and bears; I figured if I somehow made it into bear country, I would be screwed anyways. All of my bug out routes are to family locations outside of my area, depending on the scenario (non-bear areas). Since my kit is for an Urban environment, I put bear awareness as a low priority for me. I'm sure others will be different.

Believe me, my wife tells me the same thing. I am trying to go about my BOB design as a research project in a subject that I am interested in. I understand that it may come across as extreme, even though I am really trying to stay grounded in my thinking. I think it goes with the whole preparedness territory.

I have a some detergent as well and I have a stain remover pen. I always mean to take it out but subconsciously I like having it in there. I also learned how to get things clean with mainly wood ash and water so that's something you should look into if you want to consider the longer term.

The Eucerin is a great idea because during cold weather out hands crack and bleed and we could get infections that way. I agree with your logic and what you carry because the things that bring us relief and comfort we will not have in a bug out scenario and because we don't know how long it will last we should have the things we could and would need. I don't see enough of these things in people's bug out bags including mine so I will add thank you for sharing your things u carry. love the videos.

Have you considered Dr, Bronner's Magic Soap? It can do many of the things you have various items in the hygiene kit for.
@ricstormwolf11 жыл бұрын
I was turned on to Dr Bronner's peppermint soap by my late wife. It's great for rashes and the like. I would have some in my survival bag.
@tdreeder6 жыл бұрын
+1 for Dr Bronner’s Soap. I travel a lot and I use it for face and body wash, shampoo, dish soap and laundry soap. I’ve also used it as shaving cream (although these days I shave dry with a braun series 7). At home, I dilute it in a spray bottle and use it just about every surface. I even bathe my dogs with it. They have a few different scents but the peppermint has been my go-to for about 30 years! It wakes you up and, as an added bonus, many bugs are repelled by the peppermint oil. They sell it at rei, target and certain grocery stores. Comes in a few sizes included a handy travel size that would be perfect for your bug out bag. You just have to ignore the crazy writing all over the label. My mom used to remove the label when we were kids because she didn’t want us reading all the nonsense! 🤣 But seriously, it’s amazing soap. Can’t recommend this stuff enough!

@TakunTakun LOL! Sorry for not clarifying this in the video. I have a very closely shaved head, so I omitted shampoo and other hair products. I haven't owned a brush or comb in years. It would take me MONTHS to grow out my hair again, and if that were to happen in a bug out scenario I suppose I could borrow my wife's or child's hair products for a day. :)

Two ideas for you, they make smaller floss packets that come in a little disk. I get them all the time at the dentist or you can crack that thing open so you just take the spool and use the scissors to cut it. That would cut out some weight and bulk. Also mouth wash is great for bug bites and some can be used on some cotton or fabric to help start fires so multi use item. You can sometimes find a smaller bottle at hotels. But great setup, keep up the great videos.

@TheUrbanPrepper They have small little "Baby Shampoo" bottles that you can buy for a $1.00 in the travel aisle, and that stuff is good for general camp wash or on the baby :) Once empty you can fill it with camp soap.

I keep one of the disposable razors with the moisturizing strip in my kit. With a bit of water it works pretty well, especially in a pinch when shaving cream is out of reach. Also, I keep one of the small pre-pasted travel toothbrushes in my bag. Losing the shaving cream and toothpaste saved a couple ounces.. which can quickly add up.

Great video! For shaving I know for women you can use baby oil (which is also great for hydrating dry skin and many other uses). With your diapers, just fyi when you wash them make sure to use half the amount of soap you would use for your laundry to avoid burns and don't use bleach! It will burn your little guys bottom and use as hot water as you can to wash them to disinfect and remove as much soap after washing (the soap makes it harder for diapers to soak up the liquid)

also think about a couple of garbadge bags. i have used many of on hand containers I.E. Box small room garbade can lined with a garbadge bag to do my laundry all over the world. as far as shaving cream goes just make a lather out of your bar soap. not as nice but works well enough. another thing that breaks is cheap disposable razors then you get to shave holding the blade section. spend for one that detaches the blades and they store seperatly.

Might consider alchohol prep pads, they light up SUPER quick as tinder with a flint & steel, they can be used before meals to clean your hands, also to disinfect wounds, you can steralize your knife if you need to cut into something that shouldnt be contaminated, and they weigh nothing. I keep like 25 in my fire kit as emergency tinder, about 30 in my hygeine compartment and like 20 in my 1st aide comparment. super useful =)

The "wet ones" come available in individual packets, that might save you some space/weigh as you buy them by the box and can put in as many/few as you wish... There are smaller dental floss's availble as well as soap bars... The hexagonal floss you can get at the grocery store (in a two pack) and the bar soap in the travel size aisles at target/walmart (I've seen dove and irish spring). The hand sanitizer also comes in ketchup packet thingys... Love your work A+

Thanks UrbanPrepper: Very realistic relating to your answer to my question about having a 'bug out' location. Someplace close to home is perfect if you can make it work. lostinbatcuntry posted some good ideas, Here's mine: I have used everything from Vaseline to Hydrocortisone Ointment. Anything Peterolium based works if you mix it with water. It turns to an emulsion. Just wet your face and rub it on. Antibiotic Ointment works best. Smoothest shave I've ever had and no bumps.

I don't think there is an exact formula. If I had to through out a number, I would say 30-35 lbs for men and 20-25 lbs for women. My BOB is currently over this limit, but I am working on slimming it down. The weight for women could vary based on what they able to carry, but I imagine my wife would have problems carry more than 25 lbs. Ideally, the lighter the better.

I wouldnt worry too much about the sink thing. You should be able to find or scavenge a bucket or container of some sort rather easily. I also recommend Nike combat clothes. Items to add: toothpicks (wood), another razor + toothbrush (you never know and multiple use!). Check out Maxpedition Moire - they come with 3 subpockets and you can see through them. Tide is excellent addition. What about Tide stain pencil? Use CountyComm tube vaults (water tight) for your bleach. Question: many hygiene items smell (deoderants, toothpaste). You need to seal these against bears if they are an issue in your area. I never see people discussing this. How to do it?

There is special travel washing cream I currently use, I filled it into a 50ml bottle and use about 1-2ml for a shirt and underwear for a day. I also think you can use soap for shaving, as there is specific travel soap, so I think you should just try shaving with it, maybe it works for you. I use the bic razor with 2 refill-blades which way next to nothing, I plan to shave with the soap I use for body and hair wash too. I‘d also think of tweezers if you don‘t have any yet.

Thanks for the video, if something happens you are going to be the sweetest smelling group out there! :-) As other people have commented, soap works pretty well for shaving, especially if your razors good quality. You could also use soap for the laundry if Tide is bad for diapers like someone mentioned. If your thinking Long term, you could switch out your single or double dose of bleach for some pool shock powder, and make all the bleach you need in the field.

A bit of advice when it comes to the shaving cream-- instead of single use packets you have to buy in bulk--use the kind that comes in a tube. It's the exact same stuff but it's lighter in weight and won't burst like the cans can do. (We used to send it to soldiers overseas, about $4 at Walgreens.) Other than that it was a pretty well rounded kit. Except maybe put a small flashlight and the travel roll of toilet paper in with the shovel (so it's all in the same place--the small shovel case instead of having to take the entire Hygiene kit with you.)

use the mouth wash as tooth past, take a small swig then brush easy quick clean up. you'll end up rinsing your tooth past out of your mouth with valuable clean water. Better focus on where you're going to find the amount of water you'll need. include in your water kit a UV light, any way you kill bacteria you'll need, filters won't get it all. Most water sources are going to get very contaminated with so many people using them and not being clean about it up stream.

I'm going to go ahead and save you the trouble of washing your cloth diapers with tide. The oils in the detergent make the diapers repel moisture instead of absorb, so your baby will have a leaking diaper the whole time. You have to have special detergent for cloth diapers so that they will keep their absorbency. Do your research. :)
