Hymer Ayers Rock Campervan - overview and 3 month review

Hi Jill and Roger, loved your review. We bought in the beginning of the year a 2021 Hymer free 540 blue edition with similar features. We have a pop top on ours and when opened, there are 2 giant mozzy nets and the whole acts like a chimney with the 2 rear door windows opened. This is our first experience with camping and camper van and your tips are very helpful. I live in Normandie and I'm making a trip in the Pyrenees at the moment. Have a nice holiday.

I did get motorhome envy with a few of the larger vehicles whilst in France but I have to say that I think that our size of motorhome is perfect for the type of traveling that we do. Normandy is such a lovely part of the world and our plan for this trip was to spend all of our time in Brittany and Normandy but the weather was so bad we just wanted a bit of sun! I hope that you enjoy the Pyrenees and thanks for watching and commenting.

@@whichwaynow Cheers Jill and Roger, The size is ideal indeed. My wife and I, we love the mountains and on mountain roads, the 5,4m length combined with a powerful engine is an advantage. We came home yesterday and we had a great holiday.

Nice to see around Henry - a neat compact van as you said. We used to have an Auto Cruise Alto (5.99m) and up-sized to a Knaus. Whilst we love Ruby there are many places we travel to that are like Cornwall so we don't always think the up-size was our best idea! One other thought - I don't know if you are tunnel or ferry when you go to the continent (& I can't speak for ferries) - Gas - we always have to show that the gas is turned off before boarding the trains at Le Shuttle which made me think you will have to remove your chairs every time you cross. Other than that it's a great spot to keep them. Happy travelling Ann

I do get motorhome envy on a regular basis but at the moment Henry is the ideal size for us - although I may well change my mind after our planned 2 month plus trip to Scandinavia next year!! Thanks for the heads up about the gas. Because we live in Cornwall, if we are not going to the eastern side of Europe, the Plymouth / Roscoff ferry is our preferred option. Although they did 'search' Henry (about 30 seconds looking in 3 food cupboards!) they never asked about gas.

The electric e-brake is very nice, because you can swivel the seat without hitting the lever. Enjoy :-)

I've never really thought about that but it does make sense. I knew their was a reason I spec'd Henry as I did!

Just a wee one. Why are you carrying your grey waste water around. It will add weight to your van by not emptying it when you leave a campsite.
