St. Michael and All Angels in Portland Oregon used this hymn every Michaelmas. Even though I attend another parish, I woke with this hymn in my head and was delighted to find this glorious offering here.

Soli Deo Gloria! Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Only Begotten Son of Our Father in Heaven, is, indeed the Glory of, and bowed down to, by all the Holy Angels and Saints. This, today, has been the Feast of St. Michael and all Angels. May God bless all of you who read this!

One of the first hymns I sang at The General Seminary in 1963. Hadn't heard it before; it sent shivers up and down my spine. Great to hear this recording done so majestically.

Isn't it a wonderful gift that we can remember the very first time and place we heard certain special hymns!

What a lovely recording ! Very powerful organ and acoustics and a choir that a Cathedral here n England would be proud of. Memory eternal to the Rector Emeritus of the church, Fr. John Andrew, OBE, who passed away suddenly on 17th October 2014. Prayers also for his loved ones and the congregation.

Amen. He was a remarkable person. I loved attending St. Thomas when I lived in NYC. RIP to Father Andrew.

Quite, quite beautiful ! We sang this in Norwich Cathedral (UK) on the Eve of St Michael and All Angels last week, so I am so pleased to find this and be able to listen to it again. Thank you !

A beautiful hymn tune, vastly under-performed and elegantly rendered in this version.

To add to what many here have said "THANK YOU" ST Thomas Choir for these grand hymns and such grand organ accompaniments. From the "LAND DOWN UNDER".

Wow! Knew this great hymn tune, but had never known or sung this text, not even when we lived in England and attended a church whose congregation had been merged with another one, St. Michael and All Angels, after it was bombed during the war. Glad to hear this wonderful version.

The organ is beautifully registered. Dobson's will have quite a challenge to improve on this in the new instrument.

I love this hymn! And I , too, love the registration -- very nice reeds and all, and properly majestic. And the choir sounds beautiful -- the boys have a lovely pure tone, and the men sound virile and very impressive, with a rich, mature tone. This is one of my favorite hymns, and is all too rarely sung. And today -- Friday, September, 29, 2017 -- is the feast day of St. Michael and all angels. (I found this beautiful video by searching for this glorious hymn,) When was this recorded? It was posted here in 2011, but that does not mean it was recorded then. (I prefer hymn-singers to keep singing through the musical breaks when the words require that; for instance, no break between any subject and its verb. That is the only thing this superb choir could have done that I would have preferred.)

His last in 2003, he put a march cadence on some of the stanzas.
