I really think that love is the entire theme of the show. The Cerritos crew are doing what they do out of love, whether it's love of a person or love of ideals - or both. That's why I think the season 2 finale is the best season finale in the entire Star Trek canon. And also why Shaxs is the best security officer in the entire Star Trek canon. As the kids say, Shaxs understood the assignment.

i think what separates lower decks from other comedy adult cartoons is that the writers have a sincere love for Star Trek. It never feels mean spirited, even when the show pokes fun at Star Trek, it feels more like this episode was so stupid I watched it a hundred thousand times, not this is stupid and I'm going to show off how superior I am by tearing it to shreds. Also all the characters are allowed to be competent most of the time, it's not the main characters doing everything, whihc is also nice. There's a kindness to this show that you don't see everywhere that I just love when I watch it and I'm not a huge star trek person in general

Lower Decks pokes fun at Star Trek the way an older affectionate sibling pokes fun at a beloved younger sibling. It's just a bit of teasing, it's not mean-spirited. And god help any work of fiction that pokes mean-spirited fun at Star Trek if the Lower Decks writing room gets wind of it.

Among the "callbacks", the red squid-like being that changed shape is a "Vendorian", a species introduced in the 1973 Filmation animated "Star Trek", specifically the episode titled "The Survivor".

Considering that the first Gallifrey Gals episode I watched (it was a TNG episode, wish I remembered which one), I think it was Paula who referenced after a bit that if anyone was tuning in the first time is not going to follow us or something to that effect (though, of course, the bit made me subscribe);... 1:52 makes me feel so nostalgic. 😛 Rutherford's love of the ship reminds me so much of my past love of designing newspapers (never felt like work, rather like putting a puzzle together every day without knowing what it was supposed to look like), and my current employment as a teacher's aide / Middle School Forensics (Speech & Debate) Coach... again, doesn't feel like work to me (aside from certain staff members issues). Something about creating and coaching, with the intent of making even just a tiny difference in at least one person's life that is so rewarding, and even here in Episode Two, Rutherford exudes that as well. Yes, those were all run-on sentences, and I don't care! lol.

I had to self-mod my last comment for...reasons. But, y'know, it's good it happened. I can replace it with...another recipe!! All right, so you take another little glass dipping bowl. You shovel in 3 heaping butterknife scoops of peanut butter (I personally prefer JIF. Your tastes may vary) 3 butterknife scoops of vanilla frosting (I prefer Pillsbury for its buttery notes) and then you stir the pb and frosting together until the colors blend into a sort of tan shade. The resulting flavor perfectly resembles peanut butter fudge. Enjoy!

The thing that I said last week holds true. Primarily because cast and crew are HUGE Trek fans. It has been joke about in several interviews between the various cast Members that Jackqueline has totally done the Boimler thing had gotten everybody more work. And everybody from jerry o'connell who voices ransom to dawn lewis Who is the voice of Captain freeman, To our 4 network at crew members.Everybody just plays off with each other.And there is genuine comradery there which you get to see within the scenes

Out of all the new Treks, this is actually the most respectful to Trek Lore and it really gets emotional over the seasons. Its so sad its ending with season 5, everyone thought this would go on for longer as its the cheapest of the new treks being made and its very successful so it did come as a shock to a lot of people when i was canceled. But I can't wait for you's to get one Strange New Worlds, esp season 2. Also you talk about rick and morty, Show runner Mike McMahan was producer and writer for Rick and Morty before Lower Decks. Mike McMahan is such a massive trekkie.

Rick & Morty tends to be very dark, very mean and the jokes are usually at someone's expense. The humor on Lower Decks tends to be like a Bobs Burger or Stephens Universe .. it's very charming and gentle. It also has a bit of The Simpsons vibe because like that show, there's a large supporting cast: Hans the towel guy, Jenn the Andorian, Barnes, the Trill, Nurse Westlake, Steve Stephens the suck-up, Winger Bingston, Jr, the triple-threat, Ensign Castro, Lt. Levy, ...etc, etc. I'm on my 5th season of Star Trek Discovery and I could not tell you any of the names of their bridge staff! I am a big fan of 90's Trek: TNG, DS9, VOY and as this show is set that same timeline, I love the 90's Trek vibe.. Being animated it also allows for some great cameos. It really does get better as this season continues.

Im way too middle aged now but all through my youth I got this suggestion plenty of times and it was ALWAYS from a dude and usually considerably older than me. Whenever its commented about it gets waved off as “innocent” and friendly - but as a grown ass woman I would never think to demand some strange young man (or woman) smile for me especially pretending I’m doing it for his own good. Not only can so many men not stay in their lane they run any car off the road they think they can dominate and pretend it was a favor. Everything is a power play. This is why we choose the bear.

Easy way to remember the names of the four main characters: Mariner as in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Boimler is like boiler with an M. Tendi is like Tandy or Thandi but different. Rutherford more or less rhymes with mother bird, or some other word. There was also an American president by that name.
