@@serene4961 I am. Structure wise the video goes a bit back and forth between explaining who Murakami is and what the flowers represent without really diving into any of the subjects. It just feels a bit shallow I suppose and it repeated a few topics without much impact. It explains for example that the flowers have deeper darker meanings, and tears in it's eyes without explaining where those tears are.Then right away it's talking about the war, then skulls and mushrooms in his works, then that the flowers being destroyed in the Billie Elish video isn't that surprising after all and then it proceeds to give a very brief description of what an otaku is. It's cramming way too many topics without having time to digest them.

@mothratemporalradio5174 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily think so. This reminded me of Yoshitomo Nara but with less interesting work and slightly inexplicable hype.. it could have an association with the American commercial hiphop production industry and certain fashion houses. That wouldn't cause me to immediately think it was significant. I did notice the likes of Chris Brown gravitating in the 2010s to a sort of acid rap psychedelia in terms of certain outfits wherein i think the internet had a massive influence. The same kind of indie styling is absent in the period of the 2000s which is when i think i caught an exhibition by Nara i enjoyed some of the pics enough to buy a postcard set, haha. Not all consumption is remarkable or means the work has merit, that's the emperor's new clothes, although i kinda like the pop art effect of the design. And i think that is another reason you haven't noticed the flower component, because you might instead see a a pop art pattern without a close up of the motif. In a way, maybe for those people in that industry, this icon is effectively replacing the likes of Adidas stripes and does represent a shift within hiphop culture. I speculate it is functioning not only like a design but basically like a new skool display of cultural and economic capital. Because even though these designs are very pop, the genuine article prob costs a lot of money which most people won't be able to drop. So it functions like an exclusive form of subcultural haute couture, it references consumption of other J pop culture plus adult affiliation with the cartoonish. That puts a slightly different spin on this trend to previous trends in hiphop fashion, including in terms of machismo. Disclaimer: If you were to consider it subculture, i personally wouldn't just because the musical associations are totally mainstream. I also can't take Kanye seriously as a fashion designer either, or in most other ways. I digress. If you like expressive and whimsical two dimensional Japanese drawing and design with less hype, you could try checking out Yoshimoto Nara as an entry point. I think in a way this flower is in some sense functioning like the equivalent of a gold chain or tooth in terms of style and kudos. Interesting but take it with a pinch of salt, i don't think you really missed out, unless you are particularly into that genre and like to follow its convolutions. I think the other thing about this design is it's mildly reminiscent of graffiti pieces which have a close connection with hiphop although the character style is different. Edit: words

He is quite incredible; the amount of time, effort and intelligence it takes to be able to create even the simplest looking pieces that he does is crazy. There is an incredible amount of colour theory, historical and socioeconomic context and time involved in his pieces. The flower has 12 sections and a face; 12 sections represents time, the colour theory of each petal details passage of time; multiple flowers together overlapping show distinct passages of time for different people all coming together to create something incredible. More importantly, it is part of human nature to like consistency and repetition; his pieces represent this well. There is so much this little flower can do.

Just yesterday I discovered that Murakami was the one who designed this flower after seeing it on certain websites for months never really knowing what is was, but I fell in love with the design and pattern and so now knowing a bit of it’s history I’m happy knowing how big he’s become because of it. I wish he was credited more for his work it’s really amazing.

So... You did not tell us "what made him design that flower?" "what was his thoughts and opinions on the flower?" "what is the message delivered through the flower?" And you call this explained... IC I know the channel is about behind the hype. Then why did you put in title that it's explained. Don't make click baits. This flower holds a lot of power and there has to be a theory or an explanation behind it. The hype does not just settle with me. Give us the relevant answers. Bye.
@BONERCRUSHER4 жыл бұрын
This is about the HYPE around the flower not about how it was made "the hysteria behind this flower EXPLAINED" not "how the flower was created" Not to mention IT DOES EXPLAIN HOW HE MADE THE FLOWERS AND HOW HE FELT ABOUT THEM. you just didn't watch the video. Stop complaining when you cant read or watch a video.

they did explain what the flower was designed to symbolise, which is basically murakami's thoughts on the events that led to his design of it. which literally just tells u the message he wants to deliver through it. either that you have a serious lack of attention or you're silly. the video has answered all of your questions.

I clicked on this because of a faint childhood memory of the flower on a Tv channel, as it’s logo. The little smile hunted me as I always distinctly saw it in places, now I know what it’s called and why I see it everywhere. The Tv channel showed a lot of weird 90s children shows which slightly creeped me out as a kid.

I traveled almost 2 hours by bus and train to Scottsdale to visit the American Fine Art gallery and to no avail, I was unable to view his work because it was roped off, viewing only allowed to collectors.
