I believe that the advantage of having a larger set of pencils is the convenience of having colors close to the ones you are looking for with less need of mixing. But using the basics is really really important. Thank you for this video 👐👐

The part where you mention color theory is soooo helpful. Actually while learning to use oil paint myself you basically only need about 5 colors and you are good to go 👌

Prismacolor sells a 24 pc set for Portraits. It has all the skin tones you would need. It made it a LOT easier for me when I got those to go along with my 36 piece set.

I'm using Jolly Supersticks (school pencils) for this purpose and the results are great. My full colour pallette has 48 Peincils and yes the key is gettin' the values right and the needed methods as well. When just doing layering, when using burnishing, when getting for tone and when getting for hue and/or saturation. Those questions need to be answerered befor you even start with the drawing and for sure before you start with colouring. I really apprechiate your insane realistic drawings (which seems to be based on just by layering hundreds of layers xD). To me it needs to much time and such a hyperrealistic paint project might just be something for me as kinda background tasks with low priority compared to the everyday artwork day :D Maybe I should try out those high professional pencils as well, although I love the challenge to just use printing paper and school colour pencils xD Materials: cheap 80g/m² Printing paper (500 pieces packs) 48 Pallette Jolly Supersticks (classic) - additionally black and white Pencils - you REALLY NEED MUCH OF 'EM !!! Staedler H8 to B8 graphite pencils (mostly H4 for drawing) Art eraser (the soft one you can form everytime) Material Management: I've learned if your always turning the pencil toward the next edge, you can safe 80% of it for the same result, you are nearly never on the sharpener or blocking the (in my case obviously bad) paper. :) - even with waxy school pencils. I never need to additionally buy a pallette for a given project and I'm working on A4 (full slide) and currently DIN A3 (full slide without any borders or featherings on the edge). I really love your videos and honor your time which went into them, I'm glad as well that you 're sharing the realtime ones, otherwise many people couldn't even get the clue how much times went into your projects - it is insane :) - Happy Drawing! :)

A full set of prismacolor, a full set of polychromos and the most important, a full set of Caran'dache...

Heyya please make a review on differences of cheap set of colored pencils vs affordable, vs expensive set you have. I have my college set of faber-castell of 48 classic CPs. They sat for 11years and now I got them back, start with it and i'm afraid I can't achieve the richness of the color. I'm really worried. (I try not to press down hard as I do before as I have watched your other tutorial)

Leayering hundreds of times. And always checking your values. The values are the key for realism - not the colour itself. (Imagine realitic photographs although they are shown up in monochrome B/W) :)
