I think for someone just getting into HVAC, that impact would be a good economical start. I think it would be just fine for removing panel screws on most equipment on a regular basis with that compact design for easy bag carry. Just keep a couple extra batteries to overcome that horrible charging time. I personally use M12 impact and M18 drills for main use, I have a 12v Bosch impact for a back-up, I also keep a Dewalt 20v hammer drill for heavier stuff and that has worked good for me. And yes I do have a RYOBI for the wife to use around the house🤣.

@@billymorrish4466 Maybe mommy and daddy could chip in for a teenager just getting into the trade, but if you come from a poor background and you are looking to get an impact to get you started until you make enough money to start upgrading to better tools, it will do the job for 5/16 and 1/4 inch panel screws when starting out with maintenance work as a new hire with little to no experience. Not everyone can afford Milwaukie and the name brands when you are getting started in the trade.

Great starter set for a 12v enthusiast or new hire. You need small screw guns that can get into a dash. They make the ratchet for removing back seats. I saw these at Walmart and while I’m fully integrated into Makita, Milwaukee, and even a full line of Bauer batteries I don’t see me adding another set of batteries and chargers I’d definitely recommend these tools for a new hire to get started vs waisting money on a tool truck brand especially. Being that TTI makes Hart I’d love to know who is actually making Hyper Tough. Batteries just say Walmart and home address of walmart corporate on them.

The funny thing is, I have impacts and drills from Milwaukee's M18 line because I used to sell them and use them when I was a small engine mechanic. I mostly use Hyper Tough impacts for most things because they are light, cheap and work with our overkill on power. If I need some serious nut breaking torque, I do grab the Milwaukee for the brute force they deliver.

Actually although similar to the M12 battery it's actually much closer to Chervon's 12 volt pack that they made for their Craftsman NexTec products. Looks identical but they don't interchange. Chervon been expanding lately I just discovered that they had acquired Skill that used to be Bosch, and Skil quality surprisingly improved since then. They been making Kobalt and Flex, and now I'm wondering if they're making these hyper tough tools as well. I have the Long reach ratchet, so far it's been pretty good I'm very pleased with it. Clearly though these are low drain rate batteries, and no doubt these tools will actually be a lot more impressive if they had high drain rate cells maybe in the future they'll add that option.

Given that Hart (Walmart's other 'house' brand, which seems to be positioned as a bit more premium and gets a whole bunch more advertising) is made by TTI (makers of Milwaukee/Ryobi/etc), having Hypertough made by Chervon would be an interesting choice of OEMing by Walmart. Walmart is certainly big enough to get away with it, but I'd imagine that the more they buy from one vendor, the better the terms they get are.
@Troyvidihoo
@Troyvidihoo Жыл бұрын
@@davidedwards9157 Yes that is true, and it actually is pretty odd Home Depot's product line is dominated by TTI and doesn't even have a single offering from Chervon, and Lowe's has none from TTI, not even Milwaukee which TTI keeps free to be sold anywhere. Does kind of seem like home Depot must have struck some kind of deal to keep Milwaukee out of Lowe's that otherwise has a more diverse brand selection than Home Depot including Chervon's three biggest brands Kobalt, Skill and Flex. So it does kind of make sense of Walmart might look for some offerings from both companies, and if this 12-volt stuff from a hyper tough isn't Chervon it sure extremely similar to their Craftsman NexTec line. Unfortunately though I think hyper tough is being made by several different companies, I don't think the 20 volt line is made by the same company. I have used this ratchet quite a bit since I last commented I am more and more impressed with it everyday. I actually have yet to see it struggle with anything, including running nylon locknuts as we seen tested in TTCs videos.
@davidedwards9157
@davidedwards9157 Жыл бұрын
@@Troyvidihoo I suspect the TTI/HD relationship (and the Chervon/Lowes relationship, for that matter) is more tied to the 'makes the high-volume house brand and gets sweetheart pricing due to volume' thing... I don't think HD is opposed to selling (say...) Skil (which probably would sell better than Ridgid at this point), but they have finite shelf space, they have contracts with StanleyB&D/Metabo/Makita/Bosch (and customers who buy them), and TTI gives them better pricing on Ridgid than Chervon will give them on Skil (and Lowes probably wouldn't do enough volume on Milwaukee to get the leverage to do the loss-leader sales that HD does every couple months). As a side note... I'm really impressed by how good the low-end brands are getting. When I started (early 90s), Ryobi was kind of a joke (at least the battery powered stuff), Kobalt wasn't even in battery power tools yet, Walmart had a rotating selection of tools from brands you never heard of before (and never would hear of again), Sears didn't want to make battery-powered tools over concerns about tainting the Craftsman brand (which was actually respected at that point), and Warrior/Chicago Electric were the best Harbor Freight had (and that was in the 'QA is performed by the customer' days). At this point, that HyperTough impact driver looks vastly better than anything I had available at the time, and if you factor in inflation, the 9.6V Makita I was using was probably 20x-30x more expensive. I like to think my current M12 Fuel is a better tool than the HyperTough, but they're a whole bunch closer to each other than either is to the old stuff, at least in performance (longevity is a different question), and the same goes for Ryobi/Kobalt/Bauer/Hart/(new)Craftsman.

@@Troyvidihoothe reason Milwaukee is not in Lowe’s stems from a long time back (2008 to be specific) when Lowe’s and Milwaukee’s agreement expired, it was not renewed because Lowe’s did not pay the bill on a 1.2 million dollar shipment of tools. I believe there was a lawsuit and everything. The agreement was never renewed again.

I bought one of the impact wrenches and it turned out defective. It wouldn't impact. It acted like a drill and tried to twist my wrist. Not really sure if comparing it to a bare M12 tool on Black Friday is fair. _Every instance_ I take a look at the price of an M12 battery, it feels like an imaginary punch to the face(even _on sale)._ I'd say this is an excellent choice if you need something of decent quality for a medium-duty job, can't pay much, and can't wait for a sale. ...It feels weird saying that about something with "Hyper Tough" on the label.🥴

The thing with Milwaukee, you don't just randomly buy batteries (or tools, honestly), you wait for sales and bundles ("buy the 2-battery starter kit, get a free tool") and all the rest of the silliness that is part and parcel of their deal with HD. But yeah, buying them at 'list' price is painful (and that's even when I had to do so for work on the corporate card).

The Skil is a beast, but the Hyper Tough held it's own in comparison. I work at Walmart and several years ago, when Sears started shutting down, and sold Craftsman to Black and Decker/Stanley, I thought Walmart would then start carrying Craftsman too.... Then they dropped B&D/S and never picked up the Craftsman line but went with Hart instead, I was extremely disappointed. I still haven't forgiven Walmart for that idiotic move. Try giving your customers some options in-stores. But I have bought a lot of Hyper Tough tools, and I do like them quite a bit. They are inexpensive, and if they aren't pushed too much to the extreme (don't use a 1/4 drive where the 1/2 drive should be used), they will hold up just fine.

No offence to the hypertough impact you tested, or the other two, not everyone has the budget for big brand tools🤷🏻‍♂️ But if you had included the m12 fuel that the hypertough is styled after in your tests it would have made all 3 that you tested look like a joke. It’s cool to see someone testing cheaper tools though-make sure to do a follow up 6mos or a year down the road after using that hypertough, would be interesting to see how it holds up.

Exactly. I had a tree fall down in my yard and needed to remove it. I didn't want to pay hundreds to have it done, so I went to wally-world and bought a hypertough 14 inch electric chainsaw for like $60. That thing tore through the tree no problem. I cut it into pieces, put it on my truck and I was done. Have used it several times since for cutting other stuff and it's going strong. People like me are who Hypertough markets to - people who need a tool in a pinch. They are not marketed to pros who use tools all day every day. I think Hypertough would even admit that.
