THANK YOU!!! So very much! This was a God sent. Not everything was exact because I am using Windows Hyper-V Server 2016 but it made it possible. I Highly recommend this video. I put together a 8 step by step procedures to ensure I don't forget and to help any one else. These are NOT best practices BUT they do help when creating a proof of concept test lab. Hyper-V Configuration that worked!!! Notes: - stands for the Server Name. - is the Administrator account on the Server. - is the Server IP Address 1. In PowerShell as an Admin. On the Desktop/PC. -WinRM quickconfig -Y (Yes) -Y (Yes) 2. In Services, the service named "Virtual Disk"; change it's "Properties". -Startup Type to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" -"Start" service 3. Still in Services, the service "Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management" -"Restart" Service 4. In PowerShell as an Admin. Add a Trusted Host. -Run command "winrm s winrm/config/client '@{TrustedHosts=""}' 5. In PowerShell as an Admin. Add the defualt username and password for connecting to the Server -cmdkey /add: /User: /Pass -Example "cmdkey /add: /User: /Pass" -It will prompt you for the password. (Only 1 chance to type it correct). 6. In the Directy "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" there is a file named "host". -Change the "Properties" of the file so the local user and "Modify" the file. -Then, Open it in "Notepad". -In the last blank line put IP address, space, Server name -Example: " ". 7. In PowerShell as an Admin. To test to ensure a connection can be made to the Server use... -"Test-WSMan -Computername 8. To connect to the server using Hyper-V Manager don't forget to use the Server Name and NOT the IP Address. -You don't need to specify a username and password because of step 5. A good reference I used was the Microsoft Web site... msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384372(v=vs.85).aspx My configuration was a old i5 PC hosting Windows Hyper-V Server 2016 and my i7 PC running Win 10 Pro. This is a NON Domain configuration. Most of these aren't needed if in a Domain setting. This worked for me on 17 June 2017 and hopefully it will help you.

Great video. Thank you so much for this! We use Hyper V at work and I wanted to try setting up my own at home Hyper V Server. Was able to set up Hyper V Server 2016 using these instructions. Only thing it didn't include was the TrustedHosts error I got which someone in the comments posted the solution for.

The installation and everything went perfect! However, the hvremote.wsf script is nowhere to be found on the web anymore?? I found articles on using this script with Windows Hyper V Server 2019 (I'm writing this in January 2020) and the links in that article also don't work. Has this script vanished? Can I do anything else to configure my Hyper V 2019 remotely in a workgroup until I have set up an AD and DC so I can use network based authentication?

If (for whatever reason) you decide to use Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and have a Windows 10 Pro Computer, you will need to do a few things to get it working. 1.) Make sure your computer's Network Category is Private, NOT ON THE SERVER! (In Powershell, execute 'Get-NetConnectionProfile'.) To change it to "Private" you must execute: 'Set-NetConnectionProfile -NetworkCategory Private'. This will save you from a headache with Firewall errors. 2.) When using 'hvremote.wsf /anondcom:grant', you will need to add '/override' to the command to disregard warnings. Which should look like this: 'hvremote.wsf /anondcom:grant /override'. This is due to your Computer OS not being Windows 8.1. Please consider using or upgrading to Windows Hyper-V Server 2016..

Hello Sir, I think I am one step away from connecting my Hyper-V manager to the Hyper-V server 2012 R2, but then a problem popped up: "This version of HyperV Management Tools cannot be used to manage servers running Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 as another user." Great video! For hyper-v 2016 and win10 pro, I did not find using hvremote.wsf /override useful when trying to connect via hv manager on win10 pro machine (kept giving me a perm’s error - besides, hvremote.wsf isn’t supported with hv2016 hence /override). After much searching and trying different things I found this very helpful: serverfault.com/questions/852144/how-do-i-remotely-manage-hyper-v-2016-standalone-via-windows-10 Specifically, I needed to run the “cmdkey /add:server /user:Administrator /pass” on my win10 pro to finally be able to access the remote (standalone) HV 2016 Server. Posting this here to maybe help save many hours of t-shooting for others :) Thanks again for one of the best IT videos I’ve ever seen on youtube (or cbt nuggets even) !

You will need to add a device driver for you network adapter. A work around it to temporary install another network adapter that media supports.

We have not received this report from other users, so it might be prudent for your to run an antivirus/antimalware scan to ensure that scripts aren't being injected into your web browser via malware.

In this case, the IP Address was an IP Address allocated by a DHCP server. Generally you don't want your severs to use DHCP for IP Addresses because you want to make sure that the same IP Address is used and also there are no issues using the IP Address if the DHCP server is not available. So normally on a server you would assign it a static IP Address.

Hyper-V and VMware can not operate on the same system. To enable Hyper-V (or Device/Credential Guard), your Windows operating system runs under a hypervisor. This hypervisor is not compatible with the VT-x driver used by VMware in order to virtualize machines.

If you have installed Hyper-V standalone, you will need to re-install Windows to get back. There is not way to change between the two. Hyper-V standalone is essentially a specialised version of Windows Server.
