I used the same materials to build adjustable outrigger for my kayaks. Don't know why I didn't think of this for my 4x10 pelican bass boats. Great plan! Thanks

Nice job. I'm about to start a similar project and you gave me some good ideas. Went and bought the punched 1 1/4" square tube tonight at Home Depot. Seems like it will hold up well. I'm using it in freshwater, so the plated zinc should work well. Have fun with your boat!

Do you think 2 patches of VHB tape would keep the wheel brackets without drilling the transom board?
@HypergaugeDIY Жыл бұрын
I don't think that is a good idea. There is a lot of force put on the mounting bracket. You really need to use the most solid mounting method. Good luck with your project! 👍

Dude love it! I think it would be fine in the saltwater if you rinse with freshwater after every use.
@HypergaugeDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. It is possible, but my experience using my boat in the SF bay is the salt water will get into every cracks and small area. I always end up finding rust here and there even I tried to clean as much as possible.
@hookzsettv48425 жыл бұрын
Hypergauge darn, wonder if you painted the metal before you put it on. I’m going to to put it on but I’m only going to be using my inflatable in the saltwater
@HypergaugeDIY5 жыл бұрын
I didn't paint mine since I mainly use it in fresh water now. There are some minor rusting from using it in the bay, and I use WD40 to take care it.

@@HypergaugeDIY i am gonna try my own idea ,,pvc2 inch thick tubing ,bolted by u bolts on the transom then another with wheel on the end slides into the pipe with a snug fit ,the wheels float full of air ,then just put them in the top of the tube or pipe when afloat ,what do you think ?
@HypergaugeDIY5 жыл бұрын
If your boat is not that heavy then it may work. The concern is the strength of the PVC pipe which I am not very familiar. My boat + gears weight almost 130lbs (battery is very heavy), and my setup is holding up just fine. Good luck with your build.

My dinghy wheel just break down after 5 times used so I found your job and making now with 1” same but smaller than your because of weight but I haven’t found 5/8 4” hex bolts yet in 🇨🇦
@HypergaugeDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. Your local Home Depot should have the 5/8 4” hex bolts. or try Ace hardware. If there is no 4" available, you can use 6" should be fine.

What about whenever you pack your boat away I know you probably remove the swing arm but what about the sharp looking angles on the transom ?
@HypergaugeDIY3 жыл бұрын
It is true that with the wheels mounted, I cannot completely fold away the boat. For my purpose it is small enough that I can still stow away it easily. If storage space is your concern your option will be very limited.

Great job Do you think the wheels can hold a 12' jon boat?
@HypergaugeDIY5 жыл бұрын
I estimate the most heavy load I used this wheel on the boat is around 250lbs. That is the boat+ battery + motor + gear + one kid and the wheels are holding up just fine. Beyond that I don't have any more info. If your boat is not that heavy it should be fine. The steel and wheels in the design can handle a lot more weight, but if loading is a concern, you should reinforce the mounting and the bracket. Good luck with your project.
@smooveb1915 жыл бұрын
@@HypergaugeDIY ok thanks
@gogan34294 жыл бұрын
Good job. But i would think that a shorter wheel stem would be preferable because you need deep water for the boat weight to be off the wheel.
@HypergaugeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video. I think the length of the stem is not very critical for a small boat like the one I have. I guess longer one is needed if the boat is longer.

the problem those wheels are extremeli heavy , that is the problem and thats why everibody uses the plastic ones

Agree they are a little bit heavy, but they serve the purposes. There are always better ones out there.

great job ,,i have a BRIG RIB F300 ,,it is 145lbs dry ,,i went to a web site that sells launch wheels ....it had all the measurements ,,,instead of using 1/8 aluminium .i went with 3/16 aluminum angle, and 3/16 .oblong square tubing ..the wheels i got on sale at princess auto ,or harbour frieght 10 bucks each with inner tubes so they float ...i was gonna use punched steel like you ..but i got aluminum cut to size,45 bucks from metal warhouse ......if you follow the sizes and set up of saturn wheels ..its a breeze ,and i mean no offence but i wanted something ,that looked abit more eye pleasing ..great job ..now can you desighn some AAtype battery navigation lights please ,,well done sir

It is actually holding up rather well for me. Maybe because I am in California. There are other choice for wheels depends on your need.
