Put the anchor point on the hinge of the door so it will rotate around that. Saves you a lot of time and it gives a better result. Also would add a little keyframe interpolation for a smoother effect

That’s just a different way of doing it. Not more efficient either. The anchor point changes because it’s a moving shot so you’ll have to keyframe it the same number of times I keyframed the position. And I did use keyframe interpolation. 4:02

8:55 there's a much faster way to animate the door to swing open. Just change the anchor point so it's on the hinge of the door frame. Then the rotation will be natural

It’s not faster; you will have to animate the anchor point just as many times as I animated the position because the anchor point moves throughout the shot as well. Just another way of doing it

Take your time with your keyframing and masks. The quality / smoothness of this effect is entirely dependent on how well you do this. It is a skill-dependent effect. The better you are at animating your keyframes smoothly and realistically, the better it will turn out.

Hey Drew! Great video and channel, just subbed :) I wanted to offer up some a quick tip if you don't mind. So at 8:27 instead of animating the rotation and the position separately, you can just press 'Y' to select the Pan Behind (Anchor Point) tool which allows you to move the anchor point of the object. If you hold control or command while moving the anchor point, it will snap in place. Just move the anchor point to the left of the door frame and what that will do is allow you to rotate the object around that anchor point. This will save you some time as all you will have to do now is just animate the rotation alone. Otherwise great tutorial man! Really enjoyed it.

Oh one more thing for practically shooting this type of thing, if you plan on using warp stabilizer or any sort of post stabilization I would recommend recording at a higher shutter speed so that anytime there's any jitters or bumps that are taken out, you don't get those random blurry moments. They look cool if that's what you're going for stylistically but if you want it to look a little cleaner in that regard, just use a faster shutter speed. It'll help the forced motion blur that you added at the end stand out more as well. Cheers man!

1- Hire a friend to stand behind the door and open it as you approach :-) Question: do modern phone cameras with image stabilization do a good enough job to not need stabilisation as first step (before centering door). Question: would putting a tracking point in middle of door (large enough to be seen at distance) allow you to just stabilize the point which would do the job of both stabilizing the sequejce as well as keeping door in middle?

I’m trying to follow along with this. I’ve gotten to the 3D the door but after I try to invert the mask at that step I don’t have the little box in the effect control to click”invert” idk why it doesn’t show as an option to do so

what if you change the position of the anchor point when rotating the door? would it rotate easier?

Other people have mentioned that before, but it isn't really more efficient since the anchor point constantly changes anyways so you'll have to keyframe it just as many times as I keyframed the position. There's 1000 ways to accomplish any edit really, so just pick whichever method works best for you!

You definitely can but it won’t save you any time since the anchor point is moving in the shot as well
