On the question of how hypothyroidism causes increased blood pressure...perups its could be that when one has hypothyroidism they are likely to have reduced fat metabolism hence the build up in the blood vessels increasing peripheral resistance hence increased blood pressure

Thank you doc A quick question. How long do we have to wait to determine if the drug being used is ineffective inorder to change the drug or add another drug? Is it hours after initial prescription, or is it days, months or years? What is the timeframe for the drug to be determined ineffective?

Great question usually patients are advised to have a bp profile at home that they come in with during review the only time we ever change drugs immediately is if there is an instant side effect to the drug however if there is no complications or significant side effects one could wait even up to a month before changing, increasing or adding

For Pts on Ca2+ channel blockers, is there any medication one can use to resolve the peripheral edema they usually have or maybe the edema resolves on itself over time?
